I stayed at the As Gourmand and had lunch, dinner and breakfast there. I knew the accommodation was cheap and cheerful with the loo on the landing, but was surprised it was down stairs from my room, and was tiny. The food was ok and plentiful but I feel the place is certainly not 'gourmand.' It's more hearty and cheap and cheerful. The owner is very pleasant, accommodating and hard working. I wanted to leave early and she went out of her way to provide breakfast at 7am which included fresh fruit. That clinched a 4 star review rather than 3.
Have only eaten lunch here and it was great. good value for money. usual kind of menu of a simple salad as starter, steak with french beans and a moos desert. cheese board, wine and bread all included in this typical menu de Jour.havent eaten here evenings,but I've been told by everyone that has they found it pricey for what it was. so lesson of the day. if you want to eat out on a budget in France...Don't go A La Carte. Stick with whats on offer. Having said that most resaurants are a little more expensive out here in the evening.
The owner of the restaurant is very friendly and was very pleased to have us (we were the only people there). The menu of the day is extremely reasonably priced at 20 euros however the food does reflect that somehow. The egg starter was delicious but the beef main and creme brulee were both disappointing. The beef was incredibly tough and not a suitable cut of meat to serve as steak and the creme brulee was barely cooked! Shame as it started so well.
