We went to the care des gourmets as part of a group of 25 (mostly French) gardeners whilst on a weekend trip visiting gardens. My husband and I are both vegetarian and the restaurant, supposedly a 'gourmet restaurant', was to include a special meal for us. What a disappointment. The first course was some sort of tasteless tart and the main was; a tart! A small tart with puréed potatoes! on a very thin base of pastry topped with rounds of courgette and tomato. This was served with a lettuce leaf on top. Words almost fail me. What sort of chef serves two tarts? What sort of chef thinks that a small tart is a vegetarian meal? Where do these chefs train? I am almost beyond disappointment with French restaurants serving a poor excuse for a vegetarian meal. We usually get a plate of vegetables and usually a very small quantity of vegetables at that. I haven't eaten meat for many years but the main course for the meat eaters looked totally unappetising and of a uniform brown sludge colour - just like the first course in fact. The evening was saved only by the company and weather!
