Le Desert Blanc

First the plus: the view of Mont Blanc is second to none! Worth riding the gondola even if you don 't ski! But the eating experience was truly bad. Massive queues at both bar and self service restaurant (and I mean 45 minutes plus , and a confusing system not explained on menu or anywhere else which means you 're likely to queue twice, topped off with disrespectful staff (the only place we encountered this in Flaine . The secret is queue at the bar for snacks ie stuff from the left hand page of the menu including burgers and go through to the self service part through the doors for everything else. Every other on-piste place in Flaine we ate was busy but well-organised and the food was often basic but very tasty and great portion sizes. Not so here. We had risotto (tasteless, stodgy and undercooked lasagna (small portion, no cooking skills discernible served with a 'side salad ' of literally one leaf! and tartiflette (19 Euro, school dinner style . We left with a bad taste in the mouth and a lumpen mass in the stomach. If it wasn 't for the location the French would boycott the place.

Food was OK. We only had lasagne which did the job. It was hot, at least for the first five minutes. The horrible thing about this place is the lack of indoor seating. Tables are grabbed by people before they queue up, meaning they go unused for up to half an hour while they are in the queue. In that time someone else could be in and out. We had to eat in a freezing subzero wind looking in at tables with only jackets and helmets on them. No diners. Our salad nearly blew away. The friendly woman on the cash register said at least is wasn't snowing. Cheers. Never again. My fingers were like icicles. And the lasagne was way too expensive given the dreadful seating arrangements and lack of table service.

Really enjoyed the BBQ, I had cote de boeuf and at the end of the day the costs for somewhere at the top of the mountain were really not too bad with 25 euro for 5oog

Are here twice we liked it so much during our week in Flaine. The views are simply stunning and the food we were served was excellent.

Nice view from terrace. Food was good. Prices reasonable. Personal find. Krásné výhledy že zahrádky. Jídlo chutne
