Other menus for top restaurants in Villefranche offered food that sounded too forced for my liking. I wanted to enjoy unpretentious, honest cooking and so I chose Le Fleurie. I was sincerely welcomed by Madame Buguet and the rest of the evening was an incredibly warm embrace of some of the finest food I've enjoyed in years. I love French cooking so I selected the Pause Gourmande menu, and added an extra starter. I also ordered a half bottle of white (Montangy) and a half bottle of red (Morgon,) with astute direction from Chantal. The amuse bouche of a velvety chicken cream broth was pure nectar ... Madame left the room and I could not help but pick up the glass and drink directly. Superbly flavoured. My first starter, the Chicory Pudding, was beyond excellent, with an onion sauce of most delicate piquancy - that starter was perfectly portioned and left me wanting more. My next starter, the Gravalax, was beautifully if simply prepared in the ravishing colours of a summer sunset, and would have been fine on its own as a light meal with the bread. I was incredibly fortunate that the restaurant was not full and I struck up a conversation with the Parisian gentleman seated next to me about the wonderful food (he visits every week at least once, and has done so for years) ... and he kindly asked the chef to prepare a mini version of his own starter, which was (I think) a timbale of cauliflower, topped with a slice of prawn. It was stunningly simple yet with layers of flavour, like the other dishes, that just kept passing over my palate. The sauce surrounding it was sheer heaven. That took some talent to produce in the middle of service. I enjoyed most of my wonderful Montagny with the starters and Madame took the residual away for later. For my main, I had selected the Charlerois of Beef, which was incredible. It was served with wonderful leeks braised in Beaujolais, with a scrumptious potato, onion and bacon crunchy terrine-shaped slice, alongside the central beef. The crunchy potato side provided excellent texture on the plate, to combine with the tender beef, perfectly presented to my liking, and the saucy leeks. The beef had its own red-wine reduction, which was more meaty and rich than that on the leeks and it was also velvety awesome. I was so impressed by the attention to detail on each of the three components on the plate. My half bottle of Morgon was perfectly attuned to the experience. I almost licked the plate clean. I then chose cheese from the very diverse cheese plate and finished off the Morgon, which worked perfectly with my selection, thanks to Chantal's guidance. I was feeling incredibly fortunate to have enjoyed such fine food by then and almost did not order dessert, but I couldn't stop. I opted for the Roast Pineapple with the Ile Flottant on top ... and Madame brought out the remainder of my Montangy which had been chilling elsewhere. That must have been one of the best desserts ever, with a perfect sweet caramel sauce to balance the tart acidity of the pineapple - and the Ile Flottant adding both a different sweetness and the wow factor on presentation. The evening was perfect in every way - the food was absolutely stunning on several levels; the layering of flavours was sublime. There should be at least a star there for Monsieur, who came out after service and chatted briefly with us. I found Pascal to be one of those quiet chefs who just happens to simply love preparing good food ... and what food it was. Sauces and textures and combinations and plating that swept my palate in many wonderful, sensual ways. Equally, the service was so warm and helpful and the ambiance wonderful, and at the price? A complete and utter bargain. I can not wait to return - please do treat yourself to some of exceptional food and quietly confident attention to detail. book in advance!

This restaurant is wonderful a true family business with the husband creating amazing food and the wife delivering a friendly and professional approach to front of house service. The dishes are beautifully created and taste amazing and the price is very reasonable.

Visited on a Sunday evening on the recommendation of the local hotel we were staying in. When we arrived we were the only customers which was a little concerning. However by the time we had placed our order the place was full. Chantel

This restaurant is wonderful in every way--the ambiance, the food and its presentation, and the service. We had an absolutely wonderful Beef Burgundy ending with chocolate decadence. Don't pass this one up.
