This little place offers a changing menu every week—two choices for starter, two main, two dessert—plus a cheese plate before dessert they choose. Spicing is refined, tasteful and often quite subtle in a very special way. For instance spring asparagus was celebrated in a starter with a heavenly-light asparagus cream between layers of mille-feuille pastry. My wife’s beef dish, and my fish, were both perfectly cooked, nicely plated. And the portion sizes were perfect—they described them as tapas/small plate sized which was pretty much spot on. Since the menu changes weekly describing individual dishes is not helpful but I will note the cheese plate included fine Roquefort with a small drizzle of duck reduction—an astonishing combination of flavors that impressed us both—and a dessert that combined a homemade waffle (think of a waffle cone more than a breakfast waffle), strawberries, rhubarb, and edible flowers…and bits of what? Coarse turbinado? Amazing, amazing. If we lived anywhere near Moissac we’d come any chance we could. Btw, if like us you’re used to paying US restaurant prices, plus tax and tip on top of that, you’ll find yourself thinking a meal of this quality would be easily 2.5-3 times what this cost. It is still low season, definitely book ahead if you’re planning a trip here.
