Le Gabarrier - Tisch reservieren

This review cannot share much in terms of the quality of the food but if it is prepared with the level of warmth that we received by way of welcome, then it cannot be far off excellent. We called at Le Gabarrier on a hot and dusty Sunday afternoon, having hiked from Chateau des Milandes so we were suitably hot and dusty as well. And you can add hungry and thirsty to that list too. 2.50pm is not the best time to present oneself unannounced at a restaurant seeking lunch but Thierry and Christelle are true lifesavers we were offered the full selection of non cooked items from their menu and we sat down at a table drinking in the view of the Dordogne only metres away. Our drinking in was not confined to the river views it must be said as two large cool beers and a carafe of water were dispatched in short order. Two generous salads with chicken were to follow and they were given similar treatment. Absolutely no pressure was put on us to take our leave such was the warmheartedness of our hosts so, yes, we had a second beer......

Staying in the locality, looked for somewhere special on a Sunday afternoon, and without trying found this wonderful place. Off the beaten track, beside the Dordogne, shade trees, quiet and perfect dishes with a wine from Bergerac region to warrant a much longer stay. Bu5 above all friendliness and laughter from welcome to farewell. A special place and a special experience, worth flying all this way just for the few hours we spent at La Gabarrier. Merci beaucoup.

Its not easy to find a terrace with a better view on the river Dordogne. How lucky that the service and the food are fantastic as well. The fries are hands down the best we ever had. With Magret (with sauce morille), Confit or Entrecote its all just very tasty. Also make sure to visit the museum opposite of the restaurant and you're day will be complete.

Set right on the banks of the Dordogne a few miles from Sarlat this a real gem we came across early in our holiday and went back for my 60th birthday meal. The view alone is a gem made even better by excellent food. For mains we both had the local specialities Omelette of Cepes and Foie Gras Poele with Morels which were delicious.
