Overall we enjoyed our meal at the Julianon restaurant.The service, although correct was slow, as there was only one waitress serving an entire room.Very good overall food, albeit a limited choice on the menu.We particularly liked our starter (cuttlefish with a beet purée)Very small portions - the main dish looked like it was meant to be a starter. In addition, they have no child menu. We had asked beforehand if our two children would be able to share one dish (27 euros,) as they couldn't provide a child meal. This was possible, according to the waitress.The dish came, accompanied by one empty plate, to divide for ourselves.I would have appreciated it if this had been done in the kitchen.(Two tiny pieces of monkfish, one turnip in (truth be told, a very tasty) broth)On a final discordant note, after having left the restaurant and as we were walking back to our car, the restaurant called to inform us that they had made a mistake on the bill, and had under-charged us by 20 euros. They requested that we return and pay the difference. They were barely apologetic about their mistake.The incident, which seem to reflect the somewhat pusillanimous overall philosophy and tone of this restaurant, left us with a sour aftertaste.
This restaurant is different in that there is one menu prepared each day for dinner. You can take 5 courses--entree, fish, meat, cheese, and dessert--each prepared according to available ingredients and the chef's imagination. The options are to take 3 courses--entree, fish or meat, and dessert--or four courses (adding the cheese course) instead of the 5. Check the menu posted in the window to see if the day's selection appeals to you.We chose the 3 course option and thoroughly enjoyed our meal. Delicious food in a comfortable setting.
We visited this restaurant in September 2014 on our way home from holiday. It was excellent. On our way to the south of France we stayed in Senlis again and knew right away we wanted to visit this gem again. We were not disappointed! The concept is still the same, one set menu of 5 courses. Take 3, 4 or 5. We could not choose and took all five. They were all superb. Service was great too, and spoke English too. We can recommend this to any foodie!
The chef continues to surprise. If you are looking for quantity, go elsewhere. However, for a treat for the palate and surprising combinations, this is where you should go. I have always had a wonderful meal here.
