We selected this restaurant for lunch, expecting professional and attentive service, good food and charming decor. The last point was fulfilled. The waiter eventually came to take our order. He did not ask about an aperitif. So we had to raise that issue ourselves - after ordering our main courses. A catalogue of errors followed:A kir was asked for and delivered as a glass of white wine, which the waiter called a 'kir normal'. We sent it back and it returned slightly pink with creme de cassis. We asked for the plate of grilled vegetables and parmesan to accompany our aperitifs. The waiter came back and told us that the vegetables had run out. Would we mind aubergine? We agreed - the aubergine was severely undercooked. But the rocket and sun-dried tomato were fine. Sliced bread was delivered but it was stale, to the extent of being dry on one side. We mentioned this to the waiter whose response was a smiling 'Pouf!'We then watched three tables of people who arrived, ordered their meals, had aperitifs and ate their main courses, while we waited for ours for nearly an hour. There was no apology and no explanation. When our food was eventually delivered, two of the plates were fine. But one had been an order off the grande salade menu. The omelette arrived, unexpectedly floating in cream [the menu did not say that this would happen which was unfortunate, but a waitress who cleared the plates did apologise]. It was accompanied by French fries. But where was the grande salade? We had asked for the salad to be free of dressing, because of an allergy. We had to point out that the salad was missing. It then turned up, in a very small bowl, fully dressed. We sent it back, asking for a new salad dressed simply in olive oil. It came with nothing. We asked for olive oil and got a surly response. We were made to feel that the problems were ours rather than the restaurant's. Indeed, the manager reinforced this view, was reluctant to accept the feedback, and told us not to judge him on this one day, because today had been very busy. We observed tables that were not filled. Are they not sufficiently staffed to offer service? We felt that the staff were possibly not trained sufficiently and that the systems were fairly chaotic. In fairness, after much conversation, the manager did offer us a cup of coffee. We graciously declined.
