So, can't go to Portugal this year? You're in Rouen? Easy solution. Eat in this typical Portuguese restaurant. The owner is a wee bit gruff at first, true. Stepping through the door is like being teletransported to Lisbon. TV in Portuguese, the owner with his Portugal football shirt on, the aperitif ; dried ham, lupins and olives that if you touch you pay for: 8,50€ (not that you're told - but that's Portugal! All the restaurants do it over there). So, if you don't want to pay, don't touch it.......A nice Super bock draught beer: Portuguese beer is exceptional. Ordered chicken served with rice, chips and salad 10,50€. You'll get a little mustard pot with a home made chilli oil dressing: a delight! Ask for a small jug of vinho verde: a young, slightly sparkling white wine. Cheese then served with "marmalada" the original marmalade...perfect. A coffee Portuguese style - the owner will leave a bottle of Agua ardente (Portuguese fire water) to let you add yourself to the coffee. 4 chickens, beer, sumol, water, 1 plate of cheese, rice pudding and of course the aperitif = 75€ It's cheaper in Portugal, but you have to get there first! The owner did smile and chat with us : though I had cheered every goal scored by the Portuguese beach football team on the TV: France 5 Portugal 10.
