We have eaten at Le Scorlion several times over the years, and it has been perfectly adequate, service always good and the setting is delightful. However last night the dinner was not up to standard and certainly not worth 40€ for the more expensive menu. The amuses bouches were all right, but flavourless - a lack of seasoning. The starter of monkfish cheek with artichokes was, surprisingly, served cold, with the addition of a rather '90s tasteless foam. It would have been so much nicer hot, with the right sort of artichoke used (according to our French chef friend).Another starter of steak tartare with mango was topped with hot foie gras and a cornichon - a very strange construction and combination. My husband's jamon was fine, but the bean 'houmous' was again tasteless, lacking seasoning and in minute blobs - again, rather '90s.Two fillet steak "pièce de boucher' of the day, were fine, although accompanied by a slightly lumpy sauce and bizarre purées in misshapen quenelles which seemed reheated. Carrot purée with a blob of pesto?! Our friends said their pork was very good, but their stuffed round courgette was badly prepared, without the seeds having been removed. The desserts were fine and the coffee good. Service was efficient and charming. We visited the restaurant with French friends. We were all in agreement that the food was disappointing and certainly not worth the 40€ charged. It seems as if the chef has mistakenly sought new ideas and has aspirations but, sadly, is not able to deliver. We are amazed at the generous TripAdvisor evaluations of others, both in English and French. Can this be the same restaurant?!I seldom write reviews on TripAdvisor - only when I feel particularly strongly as I do on this occasion.
