Le Set de Table

Whilst on a week-long trip to Northern France and Belgium we had been staying in a gite just outside the small town of Steenvoorde and decided to sample a local restaurant. I am so glad we went to Le Set de Table near to the church where there is ample free parking.The restaurant is basically a Pizzeria/Bistro and take away and is pleasantly decorated in a modern style with seating for 40. Excellent service is provided by the friendly, helpful and full of energy proprietor who has a great sense of humour even though he is also dealing with a regular flow of takeaway orders. There is a very long list of home made pizzas to chose from, or some excellent burgers, and in addition a good choice of more traditional dishes, all beautifully prepared and presented in ample portions at great value prices.We were so impressed with our meal on the Thursday evening (special burger for me and half roast chicken for my mate) that we returned on Friday when I had the most wonderfully tender steak cooked perfectly rare as ordered with pepper sauce salad and fries and my mate had the Carbonnade which he loved. We just managed to eat dessert (creme brulee for me and profiterolls for my mate).The value for money for food of this quality is amazing and entertainment provided by mine host with his little chats, jokes for the locals and always a kind word for the kids, make this an absolute treasure of a find. I did tell the proprietor I was going to do a TA review as I was so impressed and I hope he understands my review, it being in English.If ever you are in this part of France you really must try this great restaurant.

Visited twice. Bright, modern, comfortable, friendly. Excellent steak each time. Good value, good service although a little slow due to there being just one person taking orders and serving whole cafe. Pleasant welcoming manner even when very busy. Very clean and with attached takeaway service for tasty looking pizza etc. Open Sunday evening when everywhere else was closed locally. Easy parking close by. Not the place for special celebrationsbut more than adequate for a nice dinner or two with family, friends and children. Baby changing and clean toilet facilities.

We have eaten at this bustling restaurant/pizzeria 3 times. On Sunday evenings it must be the only place open in town so you fight your way past the takeaway queue and sit down to an excellent Belgian beer served by the very cordial staff.We found the ‘Pizza light’ to be a particularly excellent deal. It consists of half a pizza and a salad & crudités. We chose the Pizza Neptune, which was really tasty with a crispy thin base.Not intimate dining, but an amusing eatery ..don’t be alarmed by the crowd!

Had dinner one evening, wasn't expecting much but we really enjoyed it.Half chicken, Carbonade Flamand, two Belgian beers and dessert came to €35.80Served with good humour, there was plenty on the plate, really tasty and well cooked.The place is also a take away and was quite busy on a Sunday night.The menu offers a wide selection of Pizza, pasta and some of the local specialities.We would certainly go there again.

Arrived in Steenvoorde from early evening Ferry, nowhere open to eat in so had carry out pizza from here, staff very pleasant, and the large Pizza and drinks was ten euros, so not extortionate. However the Pizza was rather bland, light on added toppings and the base undercooked. Edible, but not a highlight of the holiday.
