Incredibly unfriendly reception (even with reservations) for lunch. Dingy inside. Refused to give us an free table by the only window--instead offered us a table in the unappealing backroom with two of the chairs jutting directly into the doorway path--and gloomy. I was fooled by the reviews of the wonderful food posted here--no one mentioned it was dark and dirty and unfriendly. I guess it is a mistake to count on the usefulness of reviews--I guess, reader beware! (and we drove 40 km especially to get to it. As you might guess, we did not stay at this restaurant--instead drove another 20 km to a place that was totally fine.
This restaurant does everything right. Unassuming for a start. The service is excellent. Enough english spoken to make things easy. The food.... Well, it is nothing short of fantastic. Taste, creativity, and generous portions. Who could ask for more? Price was only 24 euros for three courses. Add a quality bottle of Bordeaux wine for just 20 euros (2012 vintage), you feel like you are getting real value for money. Well done ! Michelin star quality.
This is a very simple country restaurants with well prepared homemade food. we especially liked the escargot, which were served in something like Roquefort cheese sauce. By American standards, it was the bargain of the century: a three-course meal with escargot as an appetizer and lamb for the main course for 24 euro. I wouldn't go out of my way to eat there, but if you are in the area, this is a good bet.
We were sent to this restaurant as part of an organised walking tour. Somehow the arrangements had gone astray and the hostess was not expecting us. In spite of this she could not have been more charming or welcoming. The meal was truly memorable, and the whole experience was one of the highlights of our French experience.
