I happened to have a dinner and a lunch at Le Vista which is situated at the 7th floor of Hotel Alpina. Both visits left me with mixed feelings. First of all, being on the 7th floor offers the opportunity for a breathtaking view. This, however, is somehow overshadowed by the obvious need of renovation of the restaurant and the almost-canteen feeling inside. The dinner was for a big group and was with a pre-set menu. The starter was a decent pumpkin soup with bacon strips and a tomme of savoy. The main course was a sea bass filet with semolina rind, olive tapenade and broccoli gratin. The fish was dry, while the gratin was ridiculously bad (presentation was also looking as if we were in a canteen). The dessert was lemon meringue pie, which seemed pretty standard and it was quite heavy. Luckily, the wine was not bad, so we managed to compensate the bad dinner with a proper gamay grom Domaine Saint-Germaine.On the next day we had a big lunch which was much better, yet it still did not fully impress and did not manage to match the level which the restaurant aspires to be.In conclusion, if you compare Le Vista to average restaurants, it is certainly not bad. However, if compared to the usual fine-dining standards (which it aspires to have), the place is just mediocre.
