We came here on the recommendation of our hotel, just before leaving I glanced at the Trip Advisor postings, and almost changed my mind as I noticed two recent very negative ratings. Well, I am very glad that I persisted, maybe these two raters had truly a bad experience, or they were otherwise negatively influenced. Suffice it to say that we truly enjoyed the food and the service of a young man that was politeness himself, trying to use his limited English on us while we tried to use our more or less limited French - the cooperation worked perfectly. As to the food, we were first served an amuse bouche of macareaux/mackerel akin to a tonnato spread which included mayonnaise, mustard, lemon etc. Quite delicious. We ordered from the set menus, one for Eu19, the other Eu25. Our appetizers were Tartare de puma de cochon fume/smoked pork tartar with wonderfully strong taste including apple cubes, prunes, etc. The second appetizer was a much more delicate Terrine de Poisson/fish terrine enhanced by small cubes of lemon and served with very decorative strips of a mayo/cream sauce. For the main course, we both ordered the grilled salmon filet with a butter/herb sauce, buttered black rice, yam puree with small white asparagus - WOW, we eat a lot of great salmon over in our Pacific Northwest, but rarely have we both tasted such a juicy salmon - absolutely spectacular. We were not going to have desert, but after this great meal, we just had to give it a try, so we ordered one crispy Brioche aux oeufs with a nice caramel sauce decoration - astounding! For drinks we had a nice simple bottle of Bordeaux Entre deux Mers and a glass of calvados. To recapitulate: simple but agreable setting, very friendly and competent service and simply top notch food. My recommendation to follow up on an earlier reviewer: Don't fire the chef - give him a medal.
