Wanted dinner in Sedan, but not knowing the town, randomly approached a couple in a bar for their recommendation. One of them had a card for this restaurant in her bag and so we went. What a lucky find! The restaurant hides itself behind a closed front door and a closed window and we would have walked past it without a second glance. It appears to be a family affair with Madame front of house and Monsieur the chef. The menu was extensive and the wine list reasonable. Three starters, mains and desserts later, we would particularly recommend the cod, the foie gras and the isles flottant. These courses, plus two bottles of wine and three coffees came to 120 Euros, less than we had spent on dinner on any of the previous seven days around Europe. Highly recommended.
This little local restaurant in the heart of Sedan uses a black and white decor to match up with it's chessboard name. We were referred there from the Castle Hotel as the restaurant there was full. The service was warm and efficient. They were able to cater to one of our party's tricky dietary needs by being creative with the menu. There was not a bad dish served and the scallops in a cream chestnut sauce were spectacular.
We visited on 14 Juillet, when many other places were shut for the holiday. There are two establishments in one - the "restaurant" downstairs, and the cheaper "brasserie" upstairs. We ate upstairs, a decent not-too-expensive menu and good wine by the glass / pichet.Good, friendly service, nice food, a pleasant, light decor and ambience. Nothing not to like.
We had the tourist menu at this restaurant. It was excellent value for menu at 18.50 euros plus a pichet of house red. Attentive service and really tasty food. What more can you ask for.
