L'Ecuire is a bar and grill (and betting shop at the back - hence the name 'The Stable'). It's away from the hustle and bustle of Canet Plage, but in easy cycling distance of both Canet-Plage and St Cyprien.There's an extensive menu for a bar; most of the meals are plancher-cooked - brochettes, steaks, fish and a 'Special burger' - local artisanal bread and meat, a selection of toppings with salad and frites on the side. I had the burger - a little expensive at 13€ - but huge, perfectly cooked and very filling. I did manage to squeeze in a delicious crème catalan as a pudding!With a couple of beers, it came to 25€; a bit of a lunchtime indulgence but far, far better than a commercial burger bar. If you're looking for a relaxed lunch away from the main tourist drag, L'Ecuire is well worth a visit.
Forgive me, but I was under the illusion that you cannot smoke in an eating area in France?!Walked in off the street for lunch. I ordered La Grande Salade De Poulet avec Cesar Sauce.A huge wonderful salad arrived filled with an enormous quantity of vegetables, lettuce, shredded chicken in the anchovie sauce,Delicious! 6 diners arrived and sat next to me and lit up whilst they reviewed the menu!!! Smoking was underway inside the restaurant also!!!Very casual atmosphere. Good food and fair price but no ambience except the haze of tobacco smoke!
We have visited this cafe for the last 7 years annually and have always found it to be extremely friendly with great service.Today however, we visited and the lovely man who usually serves us was not serving and instead we got a lady who was sullen, surly, unwelcoming and unfriendly and made it perfectly clear that she would rather not serve us.Such a shame for a cafe that is usually warm and welcoming.We will return again next year in hope that it is the friendly gentleman and not the lady who's face was sour enough to curdle milk.
Visited this place twice and both times had good food. It seems to be one guy cooking in an open kitchen. The food is well prepared and we enjoyed the fresh tomato and mozarella salad. The frites were crispy and hot and everything was tasty and well cooked. They don't speak a lot of english here and you will meet many local residents, but the staff is friendly and attempts to be helpful. There are no english menus, but give it a try and be adventureous. The outdoor patio is a perfect spot to enjoy the charming little village.
