We ate here when the highly recommended Tete d'Ail, nearby, was closed. In the two dining rooms, on a rainy Monday in November, 9 tables were full, mostly groups of men, none in suits. We had the 11.50 euro menu de jour, plus a 500ml carafe of the vin superior, which was so good we looked for it later in the supermarket. The menu was French onion soup, charcuterie and salad, confit duck legs with fried potatoes and a pear tart. My version was adjusted to manage my allergy to meat and dairy (!), giving me a salade composee instead of charcuterie and a fantastic lemon and basil sorbet made nearby. The service was impeccable and considerate, and the food itself was just what remembered from Routiers 30 years ago: abundant, locally sourced, no fuss and entirely satisfying. This is probably not the place for a romantic gourmet evening, but for a decent lunch in Cancon while on the road, with a thoughtful host, you won't be disappointed with this choice.
