We were in Sant Llorenc de la Muga (a wonderfully tranquil setting in the foothills of the Pyrenees in the Costa Brava) for 5 nights in July. Whilst there, we were recommended to try the food of a young chef named David at L'hostal de...l'aigua, Sant Llorenc de la Muga. From the moment he spoke to us to describe some of the dishes on and off his menu, it was clear that he was very passionate about his food and the courses that we were served after that were simply exquisite. Make no mistake, David is a chef and not just a cook. A small shot of refreshing melon soup followed by a starter of salad with goat's cheese cooked in filo pastry set the tone for our first meal. This was followed by the most tender and succulent duck confit garnished with thin fried potato shavings and a perfect accompaniment of pear chutney. The meat literally fell off the bones. David, who is a charming and friendly host as well, also served us a jug of excellent sangria using a recipe inherited from his father. We ate at L'hostal de l'aigua twice and each time the bill for two including 1 starter, 2 main courses and a jug of sangria was in the region of 40 Euro which was exceptional value for the quality of dining experience that we received. If you are ever in Sant Llorenc de La Muga, you must make time to sample the food of this brilliant chef and once you have, you will keep coming back for more. .
this was the first time I was in a “Hostal”. but hostal de L’aigua in sant llorenç de la muga was actually a pleasant surprise. we had no reservations and at arrival, check-in was quick and friendly. the place is located in a quiet...nearness near the river. we were in a private room that had a air conditioning and a private deck with views. the owners and their cats were very nice and their eating and hospitable was excellent.
Lovely friendly service, very clean, well decorated rooms, pretty location but most of all INCREDIBLE FOOD! The dinners were just so so good completely unexpected from this little hotel. Honestly, in restaurants you would pay a lot of money for this caliber of food....Would 100% stay here again so reasonable and the staff go above and beyond to make your stay enjoyable. We had a great evening at this restaurant. We were a bit too early, after a swim in the river just across, but the owner opened for us. Kidsfriendly, and delicious/modern food with international influences.
