This was our first visit to Mas Bottero since its opening 18 months ago. This restaurant has a well deserved reputation for excellence, with a focus on local dishes and producers. Prices are moderate to high, but you definitely get value for money. We opted for the déjuener menu-see attached photo. Each dish was very tasty. The maitre’d was welcoming and our server was very knowledgeable. It is a modern/simple decor. The outdoor patio must be lovely on a nice sunny day. Wines aren’t inexpensive, but carefully selected. Overall, we were very satisfied. We only have two additional points- in the winter months the chef should consider offering a potage/soup, and the odor coming from the washroom (located near the front entrance) should be addressed.
We'd been to Aix for essentials on an extraordinarily wet day. As our planned golf was a washout, we called local friends for a recommendation for good, long lunch. Three and half hours later saw us leave with very big smiles on our faces and very little left in our wallets! We arrived to an empty but very simply, elegant dining room where we were welcomed by a charming lady and staff and ushered to a lovely window table. In no time, the place was full of other discerning diners no doubt sheltering for similar reasons to us. The food here is exquisite.
Nicolas Bottero and his team are doing something truly special at his namesake restaurant outside of Aix. We've been there twice now and both times it's been top marks across the board: setting, presentation, service, wine list, and of course the flavors that are being served up from the kitchen. If he keeps this up he's going to be getting a Michelin star soon!
We had a very nice family lunch...3 of us chose the catch of the day: a deliciously prepared fish (maigre) with mushrooms and chard. We enjoyed meeting the chef at the end of our meal. We will be back!
