Our group of four got hungry driving from Bordeaux to Sarlat about the time we drove through Buisson on a Friday afternoon. Lou Picata was open and had lots of people eating so we walked in. It was pretty evident from the looks we got...not too many Americans eat here. Not fancy at all and plainly a place for working men (almost all the diners were male). Our greeter/waitress made clear through her limited English and my basic French that there was only one menu option cassoulet. Sounded good to us, and the many jovial diners all with the same think on their plate encouraged that decision. We didn't realize it was a full menu until a creamy rich garlic cream soup with egg whites was set before us. The cassoulet was a white bean casserole like we'd had in Italy, but this Dordogne version included duck confit and duck sausage. It was so filling but I couldn't stop until it was gone. Then came a dessert course, a light, mousse-like concoction, frozen on one layer and a light crust on the other topped with a reddish sauce I would have thought to be respberry but without the tartness. Each course was delicious. What a culinary stroke of luck to happen on this place.
