"Went for tapas and to be honest tapas isn’t for me but the boss loves it so we went here. Service was not the best and the guy serving was a tad vacant at times, she had the goat stew which she said was delicious and the sea food skewer was the same I’m told. I had the traditional tapas dishes which are very small portions in comparison, potatoes were overly salted, and ended up tucking into her potatoes to compensate for my small portions and make a half decent portion for me!"

We have passed this restaurant each evening on our way into the town from our hotel but each time found it to be closed. The menu posted out side looked great, specialising in authetic tapas and meals that seemed to differ from that available in other restaurants locally. Tonight as we walked past it was open so we dove in. There appeared to be only one member of staff on who gave us our menus and served our drinks promptly. Several parties also tried to walk into the restaurant but were ushered back out by the member of staff who told them that the kitchen was closed, this was at 8pm! The food arrived promptly and I have to say my Wife and I found it to be the best we have tasted in a long time. The vibe of the restaurant was intimate and cordial until the patron/waiter started switching lights out and turning music off, there were customers still waiting to be seved their mains! The whole situation felt awkward, rushed and rude. We weren't offered the dessert menu or a coffee to finish and left feeling so disappointed and underwhelmed. I suggest that if they are to stay open a little later on Saturday nights they do so with a commitment that leaves their customers feeling valued, because currently it drives them to go straight to TripAdvisor and respond accordingly.

I had to wait until 1pm for the restaurant to open but it was so worth it. It's rare to taste food this good. This is proper authentic Canarian food not your bucket and spade burger and chips. Most of the dishes cost around 10 Euros apiece so it's not the cheapest either but the portions are generous and it's superb quality so well worth it. I had 3 different dishes garlic prawns, Canarian potatoes and padran peppers with sea salt all delicious and very filling. The prawns were delivered sizzling hot to the table with garlic and lemon and went perfectly with the soft flesh of the potatoes, contrasting with the slightly bitter peppers. Service is excellent too friendly and polite but not overly attentive, just as I like it.

First time in my life iv walked out of a restaurant. Took a seat, placed an order, in the space of time it took for the drinks to come two other staff checked on us. Meanwhile the guy was stood at the bar chatting with our drinks in his hand. Then he comes eventually and stops at the table next to us for another full blown conversation with my drinks in his hand! He gets to us I say I’m ready to order! He says point blank….. I’m not ready to take your order! I have never been so insulted in a restaurant in my life! I work in a hotel and wouldn’t dream of speaking to a guest like this! I stood up and walked out! I was not spending my hard earned money and being spoken to like that!

This little restaurant is tucked away slightly off the main tourist track but is so worth a visit. The staff are utterly charming and the tapas is delicious. The steak served at a neighbouring table was enormous and they were absolutely thrilled with it. We visited twice during our stay and everyone we talked to seemed delighted with the food on offer. Our waiter was lovely and seemed so happy to share his knowledge of the local cuisine. Give El Porton a visit. It is only a small restaurant but it is very quaint and I’m sure you won’t be disappointed.
