I visited Nestroy for our office's Christmas party. My colleagues and I were quite satisfied with this location: nice music, great interior design and comfy atmosphere. The dish I ordered was excellent: vegetables with a flavorful sauce and rice. Very simple, but it was one of the best things I've ever eaten at restaurants. Some of us ordered prawns on top of the veggies - that seemed to be very tasty too. The desserts were looking delicious. (I tried none) They offer lot of vegetarian dishes!The only downside was service. While each staff member was nice and friendly, they were a bit slow. For example, when almost all of our drinks were finished for a while, we still had to go to the bar to order or call the waitresses a couple of times. Nestroy can be reached by bus but it's also in walking distance to old town (~ 15 min from Domplatz).
My husband and I were staying at the Pension Katrin just a couple of blocks away and were in serious need of dinner - because it was a holiday we were very limited in our options (lots of closed establishments!), and we also wanted to find a place with English menus. The lovely owners of the Pension Katrin called over to ensure Nestroy was open for business and we made our way through the freezing rain to get some food. The atmosphere of the restaurant was nice and it was very quiet - perhaps because it was early on a Monday evening that was also a holiday. The waiter barely spoke English, but was able to provide us with English menus that had many options. I had a fantastic vegetarian meal that I thoroughly enjoyed and my husband enjoyed his chicken dish as well. I would definitely recommend this restaurant to others.
There was a wedding party going on when we happened by, looking for a place to eat. These patrons were happy to serve us at a table in the back room, and I'm so glad they did. I ordered the Wiener Schnitzel and it was REMARKABLE! It was served with potatoes and a fresh garden salad. The dressing on the salad was light and delicious! We ordered a strawberry-rhubarb strudel for dessert, and an apple strudel. Both were served with ice cream and were warm and wonderful! Stop in for a real treat!
We passed by for a coffee as we did not expect a well visited restaurant. We saw a lot of people eating and decided to have lunch. We took business lunch for 5 euros. It included a soup or salad from buffet. A main course venison ragout with dumpling or pasta with salmon and for 1 or 2 euro you get a dessert .we had venison and The taste was amazing. All was very good and good portions. Staff was friendly and welcoming. Nice place.
