Coming from Toronto, I was pleasantly surprised with Osaka. Atmosphere: Small restaurant, old decor, plain, 'mom and pop' type shop - nothing fancy so keep expectations low if you're trying to impress. Service: We went on a Friday night around 7pm so it was fairly "busy" (about half-full, but a lot of take-out / pick-up orders) for them considering they only have 1 sushi chef. With that in mind, we understood why the sashimi / sushi took a bit longer. The fried/ cooked food came fairly quickly though. The waiter and lady (I'm assuming) owner were friendly. As I've mentioned in my other reviews of Asian-operated AYCE's, I don't expect much in terms of service and don't compare them with North American service restaurants. From the other reviews, the "attitude" from the lady might be misinterpreted due to cultural differences. Food: Sushi was freshly made by 1 chef - expect a longer wait if it's busy. Rice in the sushi was good, but a little too much for some pieces. Sashimi could have been served more to room temperature. Guessing they had to rush it out because of the wait. My girlfriend has visited before and said it wasn't 'normal' that night. Ate everything we ordered and have no complaints! Value: Beats some of the over-priced AYCE sushi places in Toronto. Freshness is key!Overall, would definitely revisit if I'm in the area and hopefully on a slower night. At the very least, worth a try but don't expect to be mind-blown.
