Our family from Montreal met up with family members living in Switzerland to spend 4 days in the Ticino region of Switzerland. Finding a restaurant that was affordable and that offered enough choice to suit everyone's tastes was a bit of a challenge. Luckily I saw Trip Advisor comments for this restaurant in Ascona and we couldn't have made a better choice for our group of eight. The menu is very varied - we had the vitello tonnato, pizzas, veal scalapponi, beef carpaccio, spaghetti with porcini mushrooms, veal piccata, etc and it was all very good. We had lovely seating outside facing the lake (thankfully we came early so we were able to get a few tables together for the 8 of us). What made the meal even more enjoyable was our waiter (Stefano T,). Not only was he ready to answer our questions in English and German but when two of us asked if we could switch one side-dish for another his answer was 'Sure- why not!'. We had such a nice time that we came back the next evening and when I spied 3 tables in the corner outside I headed for Stefano to see if it was possible for our group to put them together and he responded again with 'Sure, why not!' - and always with a smile. He definitely aims to please and accommodate his customers! So next time we are back in Ascona we will definitely head to the Osteria Nostrana and I hope that we have the pleasure of having Stefano again as our waiter!
We were just looking for a place to grab a quick continental breakfast and noticed Osteria Nostrana. A large modern restaurant with a terrace facing the lake, it fit the bill. We were served quickly and spent a leisurely morning watching the lake and constant parade. Looks like it would be great for lunch or dinner too.
Beautiful location, the restaurant is located in front of lake and it was incredibly crowded. Nevertheless we were seated after few minutes. I've found a nice staff and I ate a very good pizza frutti di mare. Recommended.
The place is authentic and food are tasty Service was fast, but it was hard to communicate with waitress as they all don't speak English but the managed to get us what we asked for
