Palm Court - The Langham

Mum and i celebrated our June birthdays with Wedgewood High Tea at Palm Court, The Langham Sydney. It was amazing. 3 Tiers of well presented high tea treats, savory, scones and then sweet, oh so sweet.1. The savory was a bit average i have to admit, chicken and leek pie was nice, and the smoked trout on toasty along with the chicken finger sandwich but will forgo the roast beef toasty and the grilled vegetable finger sandwich next to leave room for yummier stuff. 2. The scones and the jam were perfection, if just scones are available as an afternoon tea option this is what we will ask for next time, just lovely lovely scones, jam and cream. 3. The sweets tier - wow, this is where the decadence hits you. The rosewater lamington, raspberry macaron .... We got through most of it and loved it but may not have felt so well after. Our own fault of course. 4. The selection of tea was delightful and we each tried a tea we hadn't had before, me the marsala chai with almond milk. The service and the atmosphere was also perfection, when we first arrived we were seated next to a rowdy bunch of girls talking about their last 'Thyland' trip, so loud we couldn't hear our waiter explaining the high tea and tea selection. When he finished we asked if we could move, they promptly moved us near the window no fuss and amongst a quieter group of high tea-ers. The afternoon was really nice, the food beautiful, the service perfect, a must visit for high-tea connoisseurs.

We booked the Easter afternoon tea, while the food was nice (for the most part..... cardamom and carrot chocolate truffles... I'm not so sure about this combindation) we were not able to finish the scones and muffins. We asked to take these home and were told that this is not allowed. When you are paying $75/ person you should be able to take the food you have paid for home. This was easily fixed by wrapping the leftovers in our own tissues and taking them anyway... but it's still the principle of it all. Also, spent 10 minutes attempting to pay via credit card. The waiter rudely advised that there was no money in my card after three drawn out attempts. In fact it was a problem with the Hotel's eftpos machine, the reception and internet service inside the Lobby is terrible. Upon finding a different eftpos machine, the transaction went through, though I suggest that the staff not become accusation when it is the hotel's fault. A tip for other diners: Bring cash. A positive from the experience was the willingness to cater to my dietary requirements, as I am pregnant there were a couple of items that needed to be swapped. This was no problem at all and very much appreciated.

Unfortunately this wasn't the experience that I expected. Having been fortunate enough to have high tea at The Langham in London, I was expecting the same quality service, food, atmosphere etc; experiences were poles apart. Food = abysmal; service = lot to be desired; atmosphere = average. Instead of going on even further into the experience I will give a suggestion to management of The Langham. Either have some of The Langham London come over to you, or send some staff to London, and let them show you how it should be done. Once that's happened maybe I might come again. Until then, find somewhere else if you want to celebrate High Tea with the finesse and grandness that you should experience

I came to celebrate a friend birthday.The high tea was 95 AUD, and the food was disgusting!! Nothing was fresh, the waiter said that they have put the cake into the macrowave! The cakes were hard as a rock! Impossible to bite! nobody ate at the table.The staff, trying to offer more food, however, it was the same thing!!I am so disappointed If this place would like to charge you 95AUD, they should make an effort! It was defenitely a joke!I would not recommend to anybody.

Beautiful intimate dinner venue. Professional and friendly service. Lovely food - even had plenty of choices for young kids. Highly recommended!
