Pippo - Tisch reservieren

Tuesday 10th May and we came to this beachfront restaurant, in Caleta de Velez, for lunch. We sat outside on the pavement area under one of the large umbrellas. We were given the menus and our drinks order was taken. We then waited rather a long time for our food orders to be taken. Three of us only ordered starters, garlic mushrooms, asparagus soup and ham mushroom tagliatelle. The fourth person ordered a two course meal special, starter and main course. The asparagus soup was rather unusual, it was red, like tomato soup with bits of asparagus floating in it. The mushroom dish was large cup mushrooms, far too many, salty and not flat mushrooms as ordered. The tagliatelle was a lump of congealed pasta in a bowl with the topping sitting on top. About thirty minutes after we finished or stopped eating the starters and the main course had not arrived. Speaking with a waiter he informed us that they had not yet started cooking the main course as they thought we would all be ordering another dish. Eventually the lone main course was served and once finished we could not find a waiter to ask for the bill, all staff seemed to have disappeared. Some time later a head appeared above the parapet and we asked for the bill, which we paid and left.

We went to Pippo's again for a menu especial which includes an amazing steak prepared to your liking. As usual it was very good. The only issue we encountered was the dessert offering. They usually do a very good cheesecake but for some reason this was not included in the menu especial just basic offerings like chocolate mouse. When pressed he said I could have cheesecake but for an extra charge and for us this was fine. Unfortunately it was not the usual baked cheesecake but an ordinary mousey one which for me is not a cheesecake. So if you like steak then this is the place to come but dont expect a great dessert unless you pay a little extra.

We met up with some Spanish friends for lunch. I had the steak! The best steak I have had in a decade by a mile. Perfectly cooked, succulent and full of flavour. The atmosphere was great. The servers were all friendly and we had an amazing time. When we are next in the area, we will be going back.

Food was what you would expect from this type of bistro. Nothing special, but all well priced, and quite a wide selection of the usual fish, grilled meats and salads on the menu. Good location, and some of the staff speak good English too.

Fantastic meal. Incredible service and a wonderful evening. All staff very attentive and even my daughter enjoyed the chocolate cake after she’d drank the whole supply of Fanta lemon!
