EL SALVADOR Eat the World LA review: In addition to the home of one of the last two remaining Pioneer Chicken restaurants, today Bell Gardens is 95.7% of people who are identified on the 2010 census as Hispanic or Latino from each race. As such, there is a high concentration of the Central Americans and especially Salvadorans, with pupusas not hard to find anywhere on this side of the river Los Angeles. Over the street from this Pioneer Chicken is a pupuseria at the back of a small stripe mall called Bell Gardens Plaza. Comalapa is named for the municipality about 40km south-east of the capital San Salvador, formerly also the name of its international airport, a hub prominently on the menu here. The dining room is full of all Guanaco you can imagine, starting with a large flag and a lot of blue color. Frames, prayers and tourist objects all hanging from the walls easily askew. After placing an order for Pupusas, you will hear the unmistakable pat, pat the slices are made fresh in the kitchen before placing on the grill. This is kind of a comforting sound, full of love. If you're not Salvadoran, it might tap into an earlier life than you were, the sounds of the kitchen as heard by a child.
The food is amazing. The food is right in point and as a Salvadoreño the only thing I don't like is the Horchata. The owner must fix that little detail. La yuca frita con chicharrón was amazing and the taste is super good. Would i visit this place again? Definitely yes.
Love the Papusas from this restaurant. They have many different combinations of dishes with breakfast, soups, fish, dessert and drinks. Two Papusa and one side of beans ordered and it was so good. A great place to enjoy papusas.
The pupusas are freshly made, overall good flavor. Service is ok. The ambiance is good. Con: they need AC Pro: good food, decent price.
