Located in one of the few unspoiled little villages of the Ampurdà, the scenery is simply unbeatable. A cosy little stone village, perfectly preserved, where one realises that time is passing just because of the church's bell rings. Perfect location for placing a restaurant that could be the loveliest place one would have ever been. But here are some of the experiences we had and which made me rank them so bad: When we reached the place it was empty. Only five employees with nothing to do but look to a big reservations' book. Seemed that it was far more important than attending us... for half an hour!!! We ordered something to drink while we took some time to look at the menu card. The least appealing list of dishes I have ever seen. Those plates that could be cooked by my youngest daughter... when she was five! We paid the drinks and left the place, just in time to see through the back door, how the cook was finalising his dinner. Even in the worst children party I have never seen such horrible macaroni plates! So confirming that, if the cook was doing such horrific meals for himself, it should be even worst for others.
We attended raku with kids on a fixed price arrangement. When we arrived they seemed perplexed and kept us standing around for sometime. They seated us any particularly low and uncomfortable table. It took 25 minutes from getting in through the door to getting our food order and there were no drinks offered in the interim. If the restaurant had not been booked through a holiday company we would have walked out at this point. The food was OK well cooked tapas starters and a decent main. Dessert was nice. But we got the strong sense overall that the staff had banked our fixed price and were not trying very hard. We visited a neighbouring restaurant the night before on the same arrangement and the different in service attitude could not have been more stark.
Lunched with a group in late September. Seated outside in a leafy town square, enjoyed a wonderful lunch. Inspired salad of local greens and fruit, beautiful chicken curry that was as delicious as it looked, and the lightest and best carrot cake I have ever tasted. Accompanied by excellent house wines. Recommend wholeheartedly and hope to return.
We visited Raku after a long bike ride with Backroads and it was a great experience. The food and wine were absolutely delicious and the owner was so kind. I would highly recommend this place to anyone!
