Have you ever been to a place you saw in a movie or on TV, so can you say you were there? Many people were even more famous in places like the Griffith Park Observatory, because they had turned key scenes from the movie “Rebel Without Cause”. Maybe you were at Los Angeles City Hall, because this building was a stand-in for the Daily Planet headquarters in the Superman TV series and was also presented on Dragnet and Adam 12. I was at each of these places, and I admit that I was also in several restaurants in the area of Los Angeles for the same reason. One of these restaurants, or more bakeries, is Randys Donuts, in Inglewood. Randy’s Donuts was presented in several movies and TV shows. For example, there is a scene from the film “Ironman”, in which the main character, Tony Stark, played by Robert Downey Jr., is shown, enjoy a donut while in the hole the huge donut that sits on the store. My brother had invited me to take a day trip with him back to Los Angeles for a few weeks and he told me I found out a few places I would like to eat. Before I could even blur a list, he presented me a list of sights or rather historical sites, as he formulated that he wanted to visit especially. Fortunately, Randy's donuts met the bill for our two requirements. I wanted to eat and he wanted to see huge kitshy things. We've never been to Randy's donuts. My brother was interested in finding some concrete examples of “mimetic” or “programmatic” architecture. These are buildings and structures built according to objects and figures. The structures often look, but not always as much as the products that are dragged into themselves as the big donut up on Randy’s, or the huge hot dog that used to serve as a stand for the valley O’ the Pup (which is currently in the camp as we found out later). The Brown Derby, the long defunct restaurant from old Hollywood, is another example of the “programmatic” architecture, like the huge men who are sometimes seen, keep tires and silencers from auto repair shops. Since we arrived in Los Angeles County for breakfast, it seemed natural to visit Randys Donuts first. Randy’s Donuts is located on 805 West Manchester Avenue, right on the 405 motorway, next to Los Angeles International Airport. Randy’s is very easy to find, but if you somehow manage to pass the exit, you will see the huge donut on the roof that you return to double. Unfortunately, Randy’s Donuts is not located in the most beautiful area of the city, but it is also not in the worst area. If you visit during daylight hours, you should not have any problems, but note that Randy’s Donuts is open 24 hours a day for your culinary comfort. Even before we made our way over the plentiful parking lot and to the counter, I could smell the wonderful aromas of yeast warm dough and cinnamon. Randy's serves all good old-fashioned regular types of donuts that you could expect, nothing imagination, and that's exactly what we wanted. My absolute favorite donuts are the simple, simple glazed variety. I remember that my youth came from two places, Winchells and Heavenly Donuts (the former on Midway Drive in San Diego, near the Sports Arena). I have to say that I am not a big fan of Krispy Kremes glazed donuts; they are much too sweet and they collapse when you bite in them. Randys, on the other hand, makes her glazed donuts just as I like them, light and fluffy, with a size that is missing Krispy Kremes donuts. I ordered a regularly glazed, glazed turn and a cinnamon roll. Unfortunately, there are no photos of the first two donuts because I immediately turned them down before I remembered that I would photograph them. We had bought a dozen donuts, but then thought about it better, because we wanted to eat in the valley O’ the Pup before we found out that the valley was closed indefinitely. I wish we had ordered a dozen to go home. I would like to have a raised chocolate frosted, a cake donut filled with pink frosting, a lemon jelly and an old-fashioned. I was very fascinated by two more menu items, a coconut-fashioned donut and another, described as coconut jelly filled. The apple swarms and bear claws looked unscrupulous, and I still push myself to stop buying donuts. It's not like I regularly get up to Randy's donuts, but now I have an incentive to return. My brother consumed two cinnamon rolls and a cup of good, regular coffee, none of these beautiful Starbucks stuff. I also ate a cinnamon roll and drank a container of ice-cold milk, breakfast of the gods in my opinion. The cinnamon rolls at Randy’s are somewhat smaller than those I remember from Winchell’s, but the cinnamon-spicy flavor and the fluffy layered texture and crispy bite on the outside were just right. With Randys Donuts you know exactly what you get, and what you get is exactly what you want. If you ever get to Los Angeles or if you need to drive to LAX, stop Randys and get a delicious, nostalgic treat, but don't forget to bring back a dozen or so, or otherwise you will regret this decision later. While you are there, do not forget to have made your picture before the huge donut to prove to your friends and family that you were actually there.

In the culinary landscape of Los Angeles, Randy's Donuts stands out as a true historical landmark for donut lovers. In this iconic shop, every sweet treat is a confectionery masterpiece that deserves to be savored. We had the opportunity to taste three types of donuts: a cinnamon roll, a classic sugar donut, and a lemon jelly-filled donut. Each donut turned out to be a captivating taste experience, thanks to the freshness of the ingredients and the evident artisan skill in every bite. The cinnamon roll was perfectly balanced, with the sweetness of the cinnamon harmoniously marrying the softness of the dough. The classic sugar donut was a simple but irresistible pleasure, while the lemon jelly-filled donut offered a pleasant surprise of tart flavor that pleasantly contrasted with the overall sweetness. However, while acknowledging the excellence of the sweets, we assign Randy's Donuts a score of four out of five stars. The reason lies in the shop environment, which, although iconic, would have benefited from some additional welcoming touch, such as the addition of a few tables or outdoor seating.Overall, Randy's Donuts offers a true donut tasting experience in a historic Los Angeles venue. If you're in town and have a sweet tooth, this is the place for you. ?

There are so many great donut spots in LA and I would give them all 5 stars because compared to the rest of the country, Cali has donuts on lock. Randy's isn't necessarily better than the neighborhood donut spot found in strip malls throughout SoCal, but it's good and never disappoints. No special matcha or rose water donuts, but just DAMN GOOD donuts. We live near by so this is our go to spot. Lines can get long but never takes too long. Parking is annoying sometimes, but that has never stopped me. Note there is no seating, it's just a pick drive thru window.

Tasty donut with different flavors, different shapes and sizes. A box of 12 is heavy, so it is worth the money. That is why the drive through is lined with cars and people are in line patiently for purchases.
