Repeal Oak-fired Steakhouse

First let me say the atmosphere is amazing, although a little loud, but in an exciting sort of way, not in a can 't hear your conversation sort of way! Our server, Christian, was amazing! He is absolutely one of the best in the business! He was knowledgable about the menu, the history of the building, bourbon and wine and more! Now on to the food! The crab cake appetizer was the very best we had ever eaten! It was pure crab with just enough bread crumbs on the outside to hold it together! Just big hunks of crab! Yum! We had heard so many times that Repeal had the best steaks in the city so we had to check it out. I am sad to say we do not agree! My filet was overcooked and actually charred on one side even though I ask for it to be medium well (a little pink). My husbands steak was under cooked even though he ask for medium well also. Yes, we could have sent them back, but unless something is inedible, we rarely do. We were just disappointed more than anything, steaks were still very edible and good, just not great! The $20 twice baked potato was not worth $20 even though it did have slices of truffle on top and truffle oil as an ingredient. The Caesar salad was a disappointment! The addition of white anchovies was different but did not elevate the salad in our opinion. The bread pudding was amazing! I highly recommend! Oh, the cocktails were subpar! I know this sounds like a total tear down of Repeal, but it is not! I think we had too high expectations and were just let down by our experience considering the price! So, with all that said, would I go back? Yes! I would but would chose very different menu items than this time. And I would probably skip cocktails and go for wine instead.

Quality of ingredients and expertise of the chefs was so evident. The crabcakes were the best I've had in 20 years.  My steak was cooked to perfection, and the creamed spinach was a total delight. Be sure not to miss the bread pudding!

Great restaurant /bar located conveniently in the Hotel Distil right in the heart of bourbon row in downtown Louisville. The steaks were cooked to perfection and the sides were delicious. I'd definitely dine here again.

Meh is the comment that comes to mind. Nothing special here and $50 for breakfast for two is a bit much. Better local choices are available.

Wonderful service, terrific food and kind of noisy. But don't be deterred just get closer to talk.
