".Nice local restaurant that cant cope with how busy they are; the food is great, when you eventually get served. Still it was the best we found in town"

Just off the N88 between the A75 Autoroute and Rodez you will pass Laissac. If it is around midday when you do, don't pass Laissac. Go in and be pleasantly surprised. On the Place du 11 Novembre, tucked in the corner you will see this great bar come restaurant. We always stop here whenever we are on route and spend a pleasant hour or two in this pretty town and eat at the "Du Central".Normally we sit in the restaurant and partake of the "a la carte" menu and have never been disappointed, but on this occasion we were in a bit of a hurry but needed lunch so sat in the bar. There you will find a blackboard with a meal on it. No choices, just 4 courses of an entree, main course, cheese board and dessert. But Hey! Who needs choices when they served up such a fabulous lunch. The bavette of beef main course was as good as I have ever had, succulent and so tender as to melt in the mouth.Service quick and so friendly with locals chatting with you without any pressures. The icing on the cake was we paid €32,00 for the two of us and that included 4 pression beers.Beat that for value! And you get to talk to the Green Parrot as well.As we say, The Ideal Pit Stop.Try it yourselves and we think you will agree.

Its taken me a year to figure out where we ate one of the most amazing meals on a trip to France. This little restaurant in a town between Millau and Rodez is magnificent. They didn't speak one word of English, and the place was packed with locals, a couple of people clearly having their weekend family dinner.... I had no expectations. Instead, on a slab of wood, the best prepared duck of a lifetime.... to die for. We had wonderful salads, a beautiful stew..... but the duck. I will remember it till my last days. Just when I thought I was as happy as could be, they brought us the dessert that was part of the menu for that day - a mix of berries, strawberries, liquor, cream and subtle spices. Simply magnificent. If I am ever in this part of France I will go to Laissac just to eat here again. One of our most enjoyable meals in 20+ years in Europe. Maybe it was a lucky night..... maybe not. WE shall see.....

If you are passing Laissac near meal times, you owe it to yourself to stop here and eat.You are guaranteed a warm welcome, and a pleasant atmosphere. The owners are friendly and very accommodating. The food is very reasonably priced, and there is a good selection of wine available too.As for the food, well, make sure you leave room for the desert! Easier said than done, trust me. Every time I have eaten there it's been tricky as although it's not expensive, the quality is very good. There is a good selection of main courses, which seem to change on a regular basis giving a good variety of food to choose from. I have eaten there several times now, the last time on the terrace. A superb meal whilst watching the world go by, but I digress. The food is excellent, the service is good, and the owners friendly. I am already looking forwards to my next visit.

We had left the Tarn Gorges on our way to Bordeaux and came upon this modest and super-clean restaurant hotel for lunch on a Sunday in August. Laissac has a nice small town feel, although it probably gets busy on days when the cattle market is on. We sat outside on the small terrace and were pleasantly surprised by the food : my husband had succulent pork ribs with a glass of Marcillac, and I had the most flavorful and well-prepared rainbow trout ever. The waiter brought extra homemade fried potatoes for the kids, which were a big hit. He was very friendly, and happy about having won a TV at the town's bingo game the night before. My only regret : the regional products store--which looked amazing from the window-- just across the street was closed. Next time!
