Let's be honest, no one, and I mean no one that travels the world for food is going to find anything in Valledupar that is on par with any really good restaurant. As far as I can tell, Valledupar is made up of local cooks...and not chefs. It's a town where the most famous staple of food is Sacha papa. (Mind you I quite enjoy Sacha papa, however it's not going to be gracing the tables of any Michelin Restaurants). Just try to find brown sugar, Nutmeg, or even a peach in this town and you'll understand the challenges. My family and I attended the New Years Eve dinner here and I wish I could come up with something positive but there really isn't too far I can go here. I had a very forgettable chicken dish prompted with a shrimp ceviche. Normal a simple Peruvian raw fish dish celebrating the natural flavors of what ever fish is chosen and accompanied with a subtle marinade of lime, mint, olive oil, spring onion, sea salt, fresh crushed pepper and a dash of chili, this ceviche was reduced to the overwhelming goop of what appeared to be onion in thousand island dressing. I don't want to berate this restaurant and make it sound terrible. It was the same kind of food I had in my college, cafeteria. It got the job done but that was about it. If you're in valledupar, it's a place to eat and probably one of the better ones at that, however if your trying to find great food here, just go to Bogota, or Medellin or Cartagena.
