We followed a famous red guide gastronomic 2 stars (and 18/20 on another one) to pick the "best" table around Zurich. Of course we re not talking about a poor experience but definitely about a disappointment and a sense of being ripped off. It started with the ambiance, nice but in no way of the level expected. The terrace is small, without a lake view and not particularly elegant. We took the full "dégustation menu" (expect the venison course which honestly does not fit into a summer menu in particular when it's 33C). We wanted a Rosé but the choice was very limited so we settled for a good (albeit priced very high) Sancerre. The bill was close to CHF700. That is more that paid in the nest french 3 stars restaurant. But the menu was barely worth one star, not two for sure! Even for Zurich standards this is bordering outrageous.If you add a service far from perfect (we started the meal without wine, we were served the wrong dish, the waiters are nice but really not with the double star professionalism..more like student summer jobs like)...it starts to leave you with a bad taste...no pun intended ...So let's focus on the food...good yes, exceptional no! It is mainly seafood and fish based (good) but we did not find any any unique combination of tastes that would surprise and enchant us. Best were the stuffed Zucchini flowers with Langoustine and tuna/foie gras (unusual and nice combination but bot as tasty as expected). Deserts also worth mentioning. Overall would have been a 4/5 at 400-500CHF and maybe even a 5/5 below CHf350...but we had better gastronomic experiences at less than half this price...and yes even in Switzerland ....really out of any reasonable measure.
Last time I checked I had experienced circa 79 countries in the world and a diverse range of cuisine often excellent and sometimes worthy of caveat...... it is quite some years since I previously visited this establishment, then allegedly under the directorship of Horst Petermann....the service then was quite deplorable the food being consistent with that of apprentices and atmosphere presented by front of house being similar to a funeral parlour.... In my most recent experience ( notwithstanding my vows never darken the doors ) a college enticed me to the establish re-invention...... my most recent experience emulates the original disappointment.Oh dear save your money !.......which most likely will be considerable....perhaps I ask more than may be expected ????? attentive polite staff and cuisine to a standard superior to my local brasserie.
We were invited for a business dinner and had very high expectations to the evening. Two of the guests had special dietary needs and this was managed in a very elegant way despite it was a set menu offering courses from 2 course dinner and upwards. The welcome was very nice, but when we had to order our wines, it took several reminders to get the waiter to help us. Even to get a second Bellini cocktail was difficult, despite plenty of staff in the floor. Found a very nice white wine and after 2 bottles, they were out of stock. Several of the wines offered only a single bottle in stock.The service should be of a higher level to compliment the amazing food creations.
WOW! I had the chance to be invited to Rico's last month. It was an unforgettable evening. The food is outstanding, I loved the dish with the foie gras and also a dish with the onsen egg, my partner said she was impressed the dish with the Lasagne. Rico is truly an artist and his sauces have a deepness, you dont find this often anymore, even in Michelin star restaurants. Also I would like to mention the service. What a delight! Young, friendly, very professional but not as stiff as you might expect in a 2 star Michelin restaurant. It was a pure deligth! We got recommend some really nice wines to go along with our dishes. Hope to be soon back!!!
