Rond de Carotte

A group of us were here on the evening of the 14th March and everyone (there were seven of us) had an exceptional dining experience in this lovely lilttle restaurant. That such magnificent food could be prepared by the chef from such a small kitchen (in full view of customers!) is truly unbelievable.As you would expect with such a small space to work in, the menu is limited to around three choices of starter, main course and desert. However, given the standard of each dish presented to us, this is no shortcoming. Given the size of our group, we tasted every dish on the menu; each one matching the other for sheer quality. The colourful presentation, the complex flavours and the fineness of the cooking of both fish and meat dishes was, quite simply, faultless.To compliment the cooking, the wine list, whilst short, again represented a good range of wines, sensibly priced that were superb. The owner/somelier/waitress and her partner/chef made up two of the three staff on duty and could not have worked harder to make the night such a wonderful experience.We have been in the area many times before and on this occasion, during our few days we had eaten out quite a bit. On the way home after our night out in Rond de Carotte, everyone was in agreement that our 'last supper' was the finest of the trip and will definitely add this to our list of 'favourite places to dine' on future visits to the area.

A tremendous asset to a lovely area, Rond de Carrotte has taken #1 place for us in St Gervais-les-Bains. It opened just three months ago but the quality of food, wine, service and ambience has already eclipsed all others.It seems that the two owners have impeccable credentials. Can’t beat Hotel Crillon in Paris and Flocon de Sel in Megeve!Well travelled too so influences from Australia amongst others.After enjoying the complimentary cheese soufflées we shared Saint-Jacques rôties, céléri croquant, infusé Campari (roasted scallops on a bed of finely shaved celery infused with Campari) – frankly heaven!Then a main of Sole Menuire but not like any other I have eaten because not drowned in butter – just a perfect sauce, then caramelised poached pear with a little ice cream, again we shared. Finally great coffee just how we liked it and a liqueur I could not resist Oh, and a bottle of 2014 Ventoux « Persia » Domaine Fondrèche at 42 € was a luxury but fabulous : )Their website shows the interior space better than I can describe.This restaurant deserves to be successful and I hope we can reserve a table in future visits!

I booked our table before leaving for France, which was very easy to do. Marie gave us a very warm welcome. It was the smaller details that were so lovely - a small ceramic tile for resting our cutlery, little gougère for example. Sitting outside in the heat, we enjoyed (starters) pan cooked squid, delicately flavoured with garlic and parsley; also a tomato and herb 'round' with a red pepper sauce. We both had 'lieu jaune' for our main course which was exquisite...... that kind of meal that makes you go 'mmmmm aaaah' and sigh because it's so beautiful and delicious yet enough to eat. My partner had the cheese plate and I had a panacotta type desert with gooseberry purée. I passed by the small kitchen where the food was cooked and it was an area of calm and concentration. They've got this right - food, ambience, menu. It isn't the least expensive restaurant, but is well worth the money. It's special.

Dinner at Rond de Carotte with family. One of the best meals ever. The food was delicious, the presentation both beautiful and delicate, the atmosphere welcoming, cosy and intimate. the restaurant was absolutely full, small talk was going on at every table and not once was it noisy. Everyone in good mood, enjoying a good meal. Very very pleasant! The 5 stars doesn't make Rond de Carotte sufficient justice!

Lovely little hidden restaurant in St-Gervais with seasonal fresh and authentic food with creative dishes. Love the 60's deco and great carte des vins. Booking is recommended in the high season.
