Looking for Thai food that has not been "Westernized" and not toned down too much, the Ruan Siam in Baar is quite ok. They have the standard Thai dishes you expect, covering the curries, the salads and the soups with all different combinations of meats or vegetarian. Nice touch is the Thai beer. The staff is very nice and the restaurant is quite popular. Prices are steep, but then again, this is Zug. Now the "downside: the location and the dining area: it is right on the street next to a traffic light with floor to ceiling windows which one side exposes you to everybody looking it, respectively a "not-so-nice-view", plus as soon as the sun shines (in Spring Summer right at during the dining time, it transforms into a greenhouse. As it is rather small and with just glass and walls, it easily gets loud. Such a pity. They should find another location: better view, bigger, quieter: the dining experience with the excellent food would be much better and they could easily fill it since they are well established and well known already.
We have been regulars in this restaurant for a couple of years now and felt it was time to give them the review they deserve. This is without a doubt our favourite restaurant in Zug and the best Thai restaurant we have ever come across! The food is outstanding and flavours sublime. Each dish we have tried (satay, pad Thai, penang curry etc) is the best of its kind we have ever tasted. However it is not just about the food and for us the overall experience is outstanding. We are always warmly welcomed, the decor and atmosphere are cosy and warm and the staff are very attentive.We wouldn't hesitate to recommend this restaurant - even writing this review make us want to go back now!
This is my go-to take out restaurant in the Baar/Zug area. Good variety, fresh ingredients, generous portions and very friendly staff. As a positive if you ask for very hot/spicey, they actually cook it that way.
My wife and I live close to Ruan Siam and we go regularly, usually for takeaway. The food is amazing (Chicken fried rice and Pad Thai are favorites), and we are ALWAYS served with a smile. Keep up the great work!
