A true gem of a restaurant, having walked up appetite walking from Bernkastel to the restaurant via the ruins at the top of the hill we came to stop at Schuetzenhaus. Even though the restaurant was fairly empty at the time as a lot of the tables were reserved we thought that we would be disappointed and not be able to dine here. However after speaking to one of the waitresses she quickly put two tables together to accommodate our party of seven. We sat on the terrace which is an absolute must, the view back over the river is beautiful especially in the early evening sunshine. The selection of food is varied, personally I had the Schnitzel with mushroom sauce which consisted of two large schnitzels and a hearty portion of fries and coupled this with the side salad. The food was lovely and a very large portion, after eating we enjoyed a couple of bottles of wine whilst digesting a stunning meal in the beautiful evening sun soaking in the view.
This place has a fantastic view, but I was even more supprised by the quality of the food! The steak I ordered was as raw as possible (as requested) and the side dishes (baked potatoes and unions) were also made by aan cook who really understands what he is doing. It is a short walk from the village, but for sure worth a visit!
We were a group of 15 (which is not easy in itself for a restaurant). The owners and employees were so professional and helpful with us. The view is excellent, the food is delicious and the service was with a smile. Would recommend this place to anyone who visits Bernkastel!
Good selection of dishes and wine 65 meters above the Moselle cannot be matched! Call tables with the best view and hike up to the old Roman fort to awaken your appetite.
