After we went there in the past with the tram of Heidelberg and thrugged the stairs on the vineyards, then until a nice walk to the place with a view of the Granit-Ex-Quarry, then again for well-earned beer, we knew of this place and beat it for a group of 8 for a nice relaxing night. Great choice. The table we got was on the back under the trees (it was 32 degrees C and we still had a fantastic view of the area west of Heidelberg, to Mannheim and beyond. At a nice weather day, or at noon with the sun overhead and the umbrellas above, we would have chosen one of the tables next to a 30 meter drop, and even better views. The food was unpretentious German farewells (with the occasional international dish such as garlic shrimps and cream bromele and my German friends all liked theirs. The highlights of the group were the Wiener Schnitzel and the Maultasche. The Spätzle were made at home and I enjoyed my with mushrooms and pork, although the sauce was a little salty to my taste (but this is usual in Germany I found. Good with the beer. Of course, the side salads were big and the portions were huge. The wine list is quite expensive, with Schriesheim wines prominent. We usually had white beer. It is definitely cooler on a hot night as it also had a breeze, while nothing on the ground level. I will definitely go back to my next visit to Heidelberg.
Ich war zusammen mit zwei weiteren Freunden letzten Monat am 26. hier. Es war ein sehr schönes Erlebnis, den Hügel hinauf durch den Weingarten zu laufen. Und das Schloss selbst ist ein Restaurant. Von oben hat man eine wunderschöne Aussicht. Wir waren zum Mittagessen hier und ich bestellte Schweinelendschen mit Spätzle, wie von der Kellnerin empfohlen, da ich ein Amateur mit deutschem Essen war. Das Restaurant war sehr voll und es waren viele Leute da. Es dauerte eine Weile, bis die Kellnerin unser Essen bekam. Das Warten wird uns nicht langweilig, da dies der perfekte Ort zum Entspannen ist, nachdem wir den Hügel hinaufgelaufen sind. Das Essen war wirklich lecker, meine Freunde bestellten Semiknödel und waren mit dem Essen sehr zufrieden. und die Preise waren nicht so hoch. Ich würde diesen Ort auf jeden Fall wieder besuchen wollen.
A place I loved in my childhood, my youth and now as a tourist destination when I visit from afar. The Ritter von Strahl was the first occupant of this mystical fortress. He guarded and defended the town, actually Wine City a title it received in the 14th century. For this protection, the farmers and vintners gave one tenth of their harvest to the Ritter. The wine was stored in the Zehntkeller (tenth-cellar) which today serves as a community hall. Over the centuries the Burg was destroyed several times. The last kick at the cat was delivered by Napoleon who, standing in the vineyards beside the castle, is to have said: Why would God waste such beauty on the Germans. I guess he underestimated the good taste of my countrymen, because we enjoy it tremendously.
Im vergangenen Monat wurde mir die Aufgabe übertragen, ein Treffen mit Abendveranstaltungen in Schriesheim zu planen. Wir beschlossen, die Gruppe zum Abendessen auf die Strahlenburg einzuladen. Was für ein wunderbarer Abend! Die Aussicht von oben auf dem Hügel war atemberaubend und die Geschichte hinter der Burg war äußerst interessant. Auch ohne diese Faktoren würde ich einen Besuch allein aufgrund des Essens wärmstens empfehlen. Auf der Speisekarte standen lokale und regionale Spezialitäten und alle 12 Personen in unserer Gruppe genossen das Essen und hatten nur lobende Worte für das Essen übrig.
