Absolutely loved our visit here. Brief tour of the grounds and cellar preceded our lunch. Excellent food and wine pairing for lunch, offering your choice of three different wine tastings to accompany their excellent preparations. Standouts of the lunch were wonderful beef bourguignone and au gratin potatoes. We've done lots and lots of food & wine parings and rate this one in the top 5, which includes others in US and Europe. Finally, we tasted wines here that we deemed absolutely delicious, an adjective never before used by us when describing wine! It was a delightful feast for the senses. Domaine Senard remains a highlight of our three-week trip and we will continue to rave about it for a long, long time. We did have an advance reservation (made by email) and were most impressed with their email reply, inquiring if we had any food allergies. Loved, loved, loved this experience. Would not hesitate to go back...and make sure you taste the Premier and Grand Cru wines. You do not have to be part of a tour for this experience but should make advanced reservations. Fell in love with one of their wines and debated on purchasing. But this was only the 2nd day of our trip and we did not want to carry it around....BIG mistake!! Dream about this wine daily!!
I just read a negative comment from someone who apparently walked in here looking for lunch without a reservation, and gave the place a 1-star rating. Hoping to redress this injustice with a 5-star here. As the manager politely replied to the previous visitor, it is impossible for them to handle a walk-in as the meals are prepared off-site and collected each morning.I have been coming here with our wine tour guests for years, and have never had anything other than a warm and friendly welcome, authentic local food and generous servings, and a choice of several tasting flights to suit your palate, served with a nice explanation by either the long-serving staff, or if he's there, Philippe Senard himself.No better way to sample the wines of the Cote d'Or as they should be, with paired local dishes. Obviously a set menu for this kind of place, but if you have allergies/vegan etc. let them know when you reserve and they will happily take care of you.Never miss a stop here when I'm in the Cote d'Or!
This is a review for the grand cru wine tasting at Domaine Comte Senard. We had a nice experience tasting their wines, the majority of which are grand crus from Corton. Our server was young and seemed enthusiastic but a bit inexperienced (his default was to say every wine was fruity but powerful). We tried different wines from various plots within Corton and ended buying one bottle each of two different "Les Paulands" Corton vintages. Each bottle was 88 euros - buying one bottle would have been enough for them to waive the tasting fee for two (38 per person I believe). Comte Senard is one of the more accessible domaines producing wine in this region.
Our visit started with a tour of the vineyard and cellar with a young but very knowledgeable guide before moving into the lovely dining room for what was a meal which became a real highlight of our holiday in Burgundy. Each course was accompanied by matched wines from the domaine, the highlight being a Corton Bressandes 2010 which went great with the buttery beef in the bourguignon. We tasted 6 wines in total and I'm only sorry we weren't able to buy and carry more away with us! As per other reviews on here, please note this is not a restaurant and you cannot just turn up.
