ok… I have deliberated whether to write this as don’t like to be negative but I think this place can take it so here goes… My husband booked a meal as a Christmas pressie this as I have always wanted to go to a michelin star restaurant and this is quite local to us. We arrived at The Barn which is quite basic in appearance as the downstairs looks like several saunas due to the amount of wood on show. Upstairs was nice and attractive. The staff are efficient but the whole set up is bit ‘cold’ and unfriendly. The staff were not particularly engaged; maybe this is how they were trained to be? The food consisted of amuse bouche which tbh didn’t really taste of much and this was a theme for the whole menu unfortunately. The homemade bread was delicious but the other offerings were tasteless and needed seasoning. -trout mousse in a lemon broth, including pips, was tasteless and the mussel mousse on pikelet didn’t taste of mussels. anyhow on to the main event-we ordered partridge -chewy and tasteless, the cured sea bream not seasoned sufficiently. The meals looked delicious-style over taste? Then the mains-my deer was tender and delicious but the sauces didn’t taste of much-I had to check the menu to see what they were meant to be. My husband ordered the steak-now at £62 this should have been SOME steak- what a shame it wasn’t -it was just a sirloin, bit chewy, not that great. Deffo not worth £62 of taste! It wasn’t caramelised on the outside and abit sinewy. The bone marrow bearnaise sauce was tasty though. Now I like cooking, I like food , I cook fresh meals every night but I’m not a chef. My first experience of food at this level… I will stick to local restaurants WITHOUT michelin stars at a fraction of the price -tbh I prefer my own home cooked meals! Is this a case of the emperors new clothes? Do people just think it’s good because they are told by someone else it’s fantastic? I’m disappointed in the experience at The Barn. Bit of a wash out and I will be asking for a meal at Bistro Verite in Birkdale next Christmas probs at a fraction of the price!

Treated my mother for her 84th birthday and we both thoroughly enjoyed every aspect of our dining experience. Service from Ross was exceptional. Especially his ability to make my mother feel special. There was a younger server who served our main course and his dish explanation was a little rushed and less clear -1), especially when explaining to an older person. The location is beautiful, and the ambience is perfect. Just enough noise to provide some warmth to the atmosphere, and never too much noise it is intrusive. We felt the wines by the glass were reasonably priced, although the red selection was a little unadventurous -1). There were only two very very minor markdowns in regard our food; the turbot in my main dish lacked that 'butteryiness ' flavor associated with turbot -3). It was still a nice piece of fish, but lacked the WOW factor. And whilst the cheese selections we made were very good, I think the menu pricing should use the word 'slithers ' :O Whilst we didn 't want, or need, big chunks of cheese, I did feel the amount provided was edging on embarrassment, even for a fine food restaurant such as this -1). I would have also like to have been offered some of the house sourdough Which is EXCELLENT) to accompany the cheese Of course I could have asked for it, but was quite full by that time). Whilst all the remaining food was excellent, I 'd like to point out the potato side dish, which was an unexpected show stopper. Thinly sliced fondant style potato, arranged in four stacks, delicously crispy on the outside, and topped with the most amazing brown butter hollandaise sauce. DO NOT MISS THESE ! I honestly think the pricing is 'spot on ' for the overall dining experience and the auto gratuity of 10% sits well for the quality of service provided. Whilst I live in the USA, when I 'm next back in the UK I 'd probably try and arrange my schedule so I could eat here again lunch or dinner).

A lovely experience for a family linch. We all ate from the festive menu which was very good value and substantial for three courses. The food was excellent, service very good and the sommelier was outstanding and a pleasure to talk to. We put the sommelier to work as wanted wines that would go with various dishes and she was exceptional, highly knowledgeable, friendly and really interested in what we thought. Lots of fantastic recommendations. Wonderful experience and we had a fantastic time. The food was very high quality and beautifully presented. We all enjoyed the fine details and the flavours were beautifully balanced. Congratulations to everybody involved and we can’t wait to return. Thank you to everybody who looked after us.

Absolutely magnificent dinner for two. The turbot was the best main course my husband has ever had and the Christmas pudding ice-cream dessert was the best pud I have ever eaten, Ever! Our third visit this year and we will be back in 2024. Thank you to all the team
