the bat and ball is known enough to have a own wiki page, it is famous for its part in the history of kricket instead of eating it! over the street is broadhalfpenny down, the original house of hambledon cricket club, once one of the largest teams in england, and the place where the rules of modern game were first codified. nowadays it is a picturesque location and more a backwater in the game! the pub that had a few famous hambledon cricket captains when it was filled renters in the walls with tingling memories. there is even a Melbourne connection, with this article from the herald sun on the wall of the gents wc! the gloomy and specialties were on the chalkboard, with much more options on the main menu. the special wild sea bass filet on crimped carrots looked great, but the fish was a little dry and the coulis just too sweet. the london pride is sustainable

Just been for a Christmas Dinner with four friends and the pub is lovely, the staff are warm and friendly but sadly the food let it down, the Chicken Liver parfait was delicious, the mains where ok.....just ok.... but the desserts where awful, poached pear...was cold and hard, Christmas pud was flavourless and stodgy, didn't eat it, and the milk chocolate parfait was not a parfait, it was solid and missing the promised Raspberries, didn't eat it, we told our waitress but no alternative was offered, they where not taken off the bill, not even a complimentary drink was offered, not even coffees, so disappointed.

Thankyou, we booked a table for for my a fair way in advance as it was the week before Christmas. Communication was great, everyone was friendly and helpful and most importantly the food was delicious! As it was my birthday I ordered steak.. it was cooked perfectly to my spec (I am a bit particular about steak) and I was impressed. We weren’t rushed and felt very welcome. Thankyou and next time will be back with my husband.

Another fantastic meal in this charming pub. Service was good and HSB is on tap. There was a log fire helping further with the atmosphere
