The Bungalow Neighbourhood Hub

After visiting for a second time to ensure my first visit wasn't a fluke, I feel more comfortable writing a review. I have heard so much hype about the bungalow, particularly their burgers, and I genuinely can't understand it for myself. I had different burgers both times I was there, and each time the meat was very dry and the toppings didn't work together. The notorious "Nicky John" lamb burger is exceedingly dry and topped with a dry chèvre, further exacerbating the dryness, and the Buffalo burger comes dry and sauceless with a slice of half-grilled pineapple and a cheese that doesn't compliment the flavour of the pineapple at all. The mushroom and Brie dip, which I had both times, is about 80% mushroom, 15% other cheese and 5% Brie. It wasn't bad, but there certainly wasn't a lot of Brie involved considering the name and the price. All in all, the service is good, but the food just doesn't measure up.

Stopped here for lunch passing through on a. Roadtrip. We got classic Poutine for an app, tasty although nothing to write home about. I got the Nick-John burger. Hit all the marks for me, lamb burger with goat cheese arugula, tzatziki sauce. wife got the regular lamb burger which was also excellent. Coleslaw was mediocre. I liked the fried pickles, breaking was a little heavy. Overall very pleased.

I found service a bit slow but with one bartender/waitress, I understand. Really wasn't in that much of a hurry. When we were served, our waitress was all smiles and very polite. Our snack food was delicious and hot, the beer was cold. They do have a variety of beer on tap or in bottles and wine of all kinds. I like the atmosphere, makes me feel very comfortable. We will go there again.

My lovely wife has the turkey burger every time, and we go there 2-3 times a month. I vary my choice from the fish and chips (huge portion), scallop burger, perch dinner, burgers, sandwichs, etc. Can't wait to go there again this Friday with our friends. The wait staff are excellent, and young Julie behind the bar is always helpful. Very attentive owner, but he's not very handsome.
