Having eaten at the Kelly's complex numerous times throughout the years I was greatly disappointed by the food in the new restaurant the white pheasant. We decided to try a few local places before we booked a very special dinner for a family member returning home for a visit from Australia after 30 years. I'm so glad we decided to do this before booking such an important family get together. The menu is simply pretentious. It speaks of finer dining but in reality it is just the food from the same local suppliers as everywhere else plated a bit differently with an ambitious price attached. Ours starters were bland and basic, wings, brie (inedible and tasted too mature for a brie) apple chutney was tasty though. Our mains were steaks and pizza. Steaks were all decent but the cheese is exceptionally sparse on the pizza they were the worst I've had on the North Coast in a long time. I never leave food on a plate, I just love my grub too much but I did this time, much to the shock of my family Service was attenive and very pleasant. Overall, I think this has been a change for the worse, not better. The restaurant is beautifully decorated and feels warm and inviting, the staff are pleasant and friendly but they are sadly let down by the standard of food.
To celebrate a significant family birthday, Lunch Sunday 13th, August, The Deerstalker was something we were all looking forward to, and it failed in so many ways Waited 20 minutes for our menus, and it wasn't even very busy The restaurant had a live singer, and the music was so loud that it was hard to have a conversation at the table It was a family lunch, yet there were no menus for the children The meal itself was awful cauliflower undercooked and barely edible, Yorkshire puddings so hard the knife could barely cut through them After the main course, we couldn't easily get a sweets menu. Just simply avoid this place. The service was dire, the food awful, and the loud singer, you couldn't make it up.
We ate in The White Pheasant tonight to celebrate my mum’s 60th birthday were attended to immaculately by Shannon Ryan all evening. Truly faultless service. From Ryan overhearing my sister mentioning she forgot to order a bowl chips bringing it to her, to Shannon remembering my vegan dietary requirements making sure I was looked after when ordering dessert. What a credit to your team they are! Not only that but the food was impeccable the surroundings so comfortable. We will definitely be back!
Used to be a great dining experience.. But gradually getting worse. Have ate here regularly since it opened but unfortunately standards are definitely slipping. Had to return a meal and witnessed tables around us returning food. Sides coming out after mains were nearly finished , long waits for food, etc. Much better options in the town centre. Very disappointing.
