The Finch Hatton Arms And

Dinner on a sunny Thursday evening in August. My dinner companion had been delayed by an accident so had to take a detour. I decided that on such a lovely warm evening I 'd get a beer and wait outside on the terrace in the lovely sunshine. The bar was cozy country pub and the two young ladies behind the bar cheerful to the point of effervescent. The cask was Tim Taylor 's Knowle Spring the young lady who served me apologised that it was a blonde ale, no need to do so, on an evening like that it was what I was looking for. A good pint, really enjoyable in the evening sunshine. When my companion arrived I revisited the bar to get her a drink and pick up some menus. I was again met by a lot of enthusiasm from a young staff who offered to bring the drink out. We ordered our meal and opted to eat in the dining room. From the complimentary bread to the coffee after the dessert, the service of the young staff, the taste and presentation of each dish were excellent. The only criticism was that the staff who were excellent were let down by management. I say this because at their age you haven 't had time to pick up all the little jobs when you work behind the bar and serve at table something which came to light when I asked for another pint. The barrel had come to an end and there was no one around who could change the barrel. The young lady was most apologetic but hardly her fault. About 15 minutes later as we ate our meal she reappeared, a barrel changer had arrived and she could now get me a Tim Taylor 's Landlord. It was excellent. We agreed that we had thoroughly enjoyed our meal as we left and would be back again. An excellent crew that evening had made it very enjoyable. Come on management give these young ladies the support they richly deserve.

This was our first visit to The Finch Hatton and it is undeniable we will stay there again without hesitation if circumstances allow. Our room was good, so too was the ensuite bathroom. It looked out over the back of the building away from the carparking area, thus ours was a quiet room very much appreciated. Initially the room was a little chilly but the hotel 's heating system soon took away that minor annoyance. The building is relatively old, originally a hunting lodge I believe. As a consequence the property does have the odd quirk to it, but that for us just enhanced its charm. The bar was inviting and was used by some of its neighbours as their local . The dining room was comfortable and produced some very good freshly cooked meals. We ate there both nights of our stay and were not disappointed in the least. The Hatton 's staff were good, helpful, and very efficient. It is also a dog friendly establishment, any interested parties will need to check if the bedrooms share the same status as the bar area. Ewerby is a quiet village and the Finch Hatton fits in well with the ambience of the area. Due to the time of year many local attractions have closed for the winter but a member of staff suggested a visit to the Whisby Nature Reserve. The weather was kind to us there and we enjoyed two of their six different, well signposted, walks. The Finch Hatton is from our perspective a fine place to stay.

I had lunch here with a friend and we both commented that it was the best haddock and chips we'd ever had. All of the batter was edible, which is rare in our experience. The food also arrived quickly and the staff were polite. We will definitely return.

Lovely place. Looks fantastic inside, and there are lovely areas to sit out. It 's a shame they don 't "do walk ins "on a Sunday, for lunch! Service: 3 Location: 5
