"Nice welcome from an over abundance of inattentive staff, decor better on the inside and quite relaxed for informal dining. Food on the good side of average but nothing to write home about, the non fussy one found the beef tough going. But beware, despite a website saying menu inclusive of vat, and our experience everywhere else, on getting home checked the bill and vat has been added as a separate item on top of the stated menu prices. Wonder how many people they catch out with this one. Certainly not returning"

Family meal03/09/23 at The Hope Anchor pub, South Ferriby for a special occasion which was spoilt by the number of flies in the restaurant. I even had to ask a staff member if they had a fly swatter and they were going to fetch a fly zapper which never materialised. Whilst waiting for starters to arrive we had killed 3 flies. Starters were eaten off a slim piece of slate (as was the fish and chips main course) when a decent plate would have been better. I asked staff again if they had a fly swatter and another table was set up elsewhere in the pub, which was no different. Sat at the new table we killed a further 2 flies. The meal was spoilt by having to constantly bat flies out of the way, landing on our cutlery whilst trying to eat (had to grab spare from a neighbouring table). Main courses consisted of steaks, fish and chips and roast beef dinners with side dishes. Sadly, we could not eat all of the side dishes due to flies landing on them. The roast beef dinners were nothing special as the beef was chewy (I have cooked better myself) as was the steak on the bone but the fillet steaks and triple cooked chips were nice. It was not a pleasant dining experience at all and we declined to entertain dessert and any more drinks as we could not wait to leave. We would definitely not return or recommend this venue at all. Overall, very disappointed at what should have been a nice family occasion and the food was definitely NOT Michelin star quality.

Recommend to us by our hosts at a nearby Airbnb.. we were visiting the area for a short break with our dog so it was important to find a restaurant that allowed dogs. Whilst understandably they don’t allow dogs in the main restaurant they do in the pub area of the restaurant. The table was very nice, the service excellent and the menu exactly the same as the main restaurant. We had starters, mains and desserts, the food was exceptionally good, the type of quality you pay dearly for in London. I had mussels to start which although easy to cook are often spoilt by overcooking, not these, perfect in a lovely broth. I then had the “Pig Project”, they do a lamb and a pig project where their aim is to use the whole animal so there is no waste, obviously you don't get to eat the whole animal but what ever special dish they are preparing that evening. 3 adults (1 dog, who was made very welcome), starters, mains, sides, deserts, drinks…. £180 inc service which is discretionary. Worth every penny!!

Okay so on approach I was immediately struck by the Michelin signs which got me excited. The local ales on tap were a welcome entrance along with the very professional articulate french manager who made the experience that much more enjoyable. The interior of the restaurant was utterly gorgeous, warm and homely whilst retaining a high level of class. The menus was superb with something on there for absolutely everyone. If you wanted to go and spend on the lighter side there was food for you. If you wanted to spend more and have fresh oysters, lobster and (as recommend by my new favourite Frenchman) a duck shot that very day that he insisted he would have to eat himself if we didn’t take it which I thought was absolutely charming. I could go on and on about this place as the quality of the food was simply divine and inspired. A must visit for anyone in the area looking for a memorable experience. 5 stars.

Wow what can we say, simply amazing! It wasn't our first time although we have not been for a while but this was by far our best visit yet. We had the chateaubriand sharer and it was melt in the mouth delicious. The chips and onion ring sides were fantastic and the blue cheese sauce divine. My husband had a pudding and I an Irish coffee. The creme brulee was delicious and the coffee hit the spot perfectly. The service was brilliant and we can't fault Kieran and Megan in any way. We will definitely be back and sooner rather than later!
