We used to love this place and always called when in Southport. It was friendly. The manager was down to earth and knew everyone as there were many regulars. It seems to have had a change in staff. We noticed it wasn’t as good last time we went but put it down to the fact it was quite busy. Yesterday though it was about 1/4 full. We sat down opposite the counter. The young lad who I think has taken over now shouted over he’d be with us in a minute. Then he spent 5 minutes taking food out to people. A couple came in and sat down and a young girl came from behind the counter and took their order. She walked past us to do so. Then there was an altercation between her and the young lad. Both quite loudly criticising each other’s work. Then she came over and took our order. She struggled with this, not seeming to understand us. A while later the young lad held up a plate of food and shouted do we want peas with this? It wasn't our order but the couple’s that came in after us. I explained. Then another woman brought out my husband’s order with gravy instead of curry so we got that changed. A bit later my order came I only have chips and peas. The chips were full of salt and highly coloured and the chips were scraps and had been cooked a number of times. Disappointing, because we always came here because the chips were lovely. As we were eating, the woman who had served us grabbed herself a can and washed a sausage down she was eating behind the counter with her hands. The other girl came out and sat at the next table using her mobile. She got told off and the arguing started again. We couldn’t get out quick enough. The photo shows the inedible part of the meal which was nearly half. When I got to the till the girl gave me three amounts before she settled on one. I still don’t know if she got it right. This chippy had a great reputation. It was friendly, lovely chips and reasonably priced, especially for pensioners. It’s had the heart ripped out of it. The young lad is struggling to cope and the staff don't work well. We wont be going back and will look for somewhere else when in Southport.
Dreadful; sausage dinner ordered, it cost £6.79. The receipt was for chips sausage gravy no peas. I asked why it cost so much and why there were no peas, they didn’t know what a “dinner” contained from a chippy! Told them to keep my pension money as they needed it more than me. Killing Southport with your profiteering! Never again will I go there.
Arrived at 6.45pm,half the restaurant was closed off ,choice of seating limited,entrance door wide open,cold air blowing through.meal arrived ,has we started eating they started mopping the floor disinfectant smell very strong which didn't go to well with our fish and chips,it masked the aroma of the meal,couldn't wait to leave.very disappointing.
Very dissatisfied. Re-fried fish and hard chips but the peas were OK. A lot different from last year, when it was lovely. The toilet just one for both sexes was none too clean. Won’t be visiting again
