"I hardly write reviews but I just had to mention this here, on paper this place looks amazing but prepare to be disappointed. Service is horrible, takes forever to toast bread, some tables get served before others according to waiter preference. I'm actually so sad to write this cause I really wanted to like this place and I was planning on bringing my family when they visit but unless the service improves I don't think I'll come again."

A lovely little place that will need to do better for us to return. Was so looking forward to supporting this new business but will not be returning. The Turkish coffee we wanted was not available due to the stove being used to prepare lunch. The chai tea was not available, the alternative coffee we ordered took a long time to be ready and would have tasted fine if it had been hot. Instead it was lukewarm. Next, the dish we ordered (being vegetarian adds to less choice for myself ) was not available and so we ordered something else. They brought me the wrong order and had to go back to return with the right one. I enjoyed my salad, my friend enjoyed the burgher. The waitress was very apologetic throughout. However the occasion was not enjoyable and a disappointment. Too bad, the search for a wonderful little brunch place on King East continues.

My second visit to The Poet Cafe and decided to try one of their lunch menu items. The choices were chicken or chickpeas salads beautifully garnished with walnuts and pita chips as well as locally-sourced meat sandwiches. I opted in for their mighty looking beef burger which I was told is made from fresh never frozen beef sourced from St. Lawrence market just down the street. Wrapped in a slightly grilled pita bread, the burger was thick, juicy and well-seasoned. It also came with a side of chipotle sauce mixed with tzatziki that was flavourful and balanced. Needless to say, this being a cafe, you cannot leave without drinking one of their hand crafted lattes along side with a variety of Persian sweets. I will definitely be back on a Sunday to try out their famous Poet Brunch.

I've been coming here for coffee a few times a week since the place opened. Good stuff! friendly staff and the treats are good too. Haven't tried the lunchables yet. But I'm looking forward to it. So far I've had the regular coffee, tea, Americano, latte, flat white, turkish coffee and their complimentary water infused with watermelon. All of it is fantastic. Then today. I forgot my wallet at home and they were handing out free small cups of coffee to passerbys, and I thought. what a godsend! When I mentioned my situation, guess what? I was upgraded to a larger cup. They certainly recognize customer loyalty! So yes, I highly recommend the place.

The Poet Cafe opened in March 2017 and is a welcome addition to the King St. East district. You can grab a coffee (from Toronto's Pilot roasters), tea, snack or a sandwich. The food has a definite Persian twist. I thoroughly enjoyed the falafel sandwich (nice spicy bite) and sampled their rice pudding (good but a little too gooey for my liking). The service was exceptional with the server even bringing me a glass of water. The cafe is very nicely decorated and furnished (modern with plenty of use of natural wood). Do give it a try and support a local business!
