Tolbooth - Tisch reservieren

We visited on a raw and windy winters afternoon. The interior was adequately heated, but somewhat devoid of diners, as we had booked the second lunch sitting. Bare floor boards and a lack of soft furnishings provide the atmosphere of a small school canteen.The young man who arrived with our.menus was impossibly young and yet to learn his trade adequately, as although he was nearby it proved impossible to attract his attention, as he busily cleared a table directly in front of us.When the exceptionally gifted manager asked if we wished to order drinks, some time later, I was forced to point out that we still lacked a wine list.She apologetically corrected this, and from that point on, service became perfection, which continued, due to the charm and experience of this ex restaurateur, throughout our stay.The cooking here is very good, and the fish, as you would rightly expect, fresh.Our mussels as starter, and our halibut as main course, equal to those enjoyed elsewhere.The wine list needs attention here. It lacks balance and is greedily marked up. After some deliberation, we drank a pleasant lanquedoc white with our food, which complimented it adequately.

Overall, a disappointing experience. We were pleased to be offered a reservation for Sunday dinner as we had looked forward to eating here and had actually arranged a trip to Stonehaven with this restaurant in mind. We were given excellent service, a very tasty amuse bouche, and very enjoyable wine.The restaurant is bright, clean and pleasantly situated. Apart from these positives I have nothing to say to recommend this establishment. Our shared starter was insipid, at best, our mains bland (one hake and one halibut) and our shared dessert dull and unsatisfying. While there was nothing worth actually raising a complaint with our server or the management, we left feeling that we’d spent over £100 on a very underwhelming meal.I did wonder whether we’d chosen a bad evening to visit.Is no fresh fish landed on a Sunday?Sorry, management, to be so critical. I’d be much happier to be writing a glowing review.

C'est au premier étage d'un bâtiment historique, le plus vieux de Stonehaven, face à son charmant petit port, que se situe ce restaurant. La cuisine est savoureuse, elle conjugue le poisson frais, issu de la pêche locale, aux arômes et aux parfums à la fois originaux et subtiles. Les moules de Shetland au romarin, la truite de mer à la truffe et le cake à la carotte étaient divins. Le service est impeccable et l'addition raisonnable. Bref, de l'excellente gastronomie écossaise à goûter absolument !

Es war absolut klasse. Sehr freundliches Personal, nettes Ambiente (wenn auch etwas laut) und ausgezeichnetes Essen. Die Suppe (Cullen Skink) war richtig lecker, ebenso der Seeteufel und die Langusten, die wir als Hauptgang hatten. Preislich sicher nicht gerade günstig, aber definitiv angemessen. Klare Weiterempfehlung!
