Velvet Glove Restaurant

It had been many years since I last visited the Velvet Glove. Decided to take advantage of a Groupon. The menu was a restricted one for purposes of the Groupon...which I was aware of and was fine with. The ambiance remains traditional and formal. It is only open for dinner on Fridays and Saturdays. I can see why. Saturday night at prime dinner time and there were only 7 tables occupied over the span of about 3 hours.Service was fine but there was a definite tone that was taken as a Groupon table taking advantage of a so called deal. I confess that my perception was one of aloofness and slight snootyness all evening. After I left the tip and continued to talk with my companion suddenly there was a greater level if respectfulness. I am sorry but if my girlfriend doesn't drink and I am driving alcohol is not going to happen. The entire evening I felt as though I was being tolerated as the cheap guy in the corner.Food was fine. Regular menu portion size seemed significantly larger than the Groupon peomotion. Salad and soup first course was fine. Deserts of deconstructed cheesecake and peach bourbon cake dishes were fine. We both had the boar chops which were quite lovely. A nice evening on balance. Would I go out of my way to go back...probably not. While food is important...the overall service experience is equally important.

We have gone there on several occasions that the food and service has been excellent but this time it was dreadful. The service was sub par with little or no attention from our seasoned server. Ordered the clams which I sent back twice as the first time 50% of them were closed, second time not much better. We ordered lamb shoulder and I had the Wild Boar needless to say we were served steak and fillet mignon which was meant for another table! We eventually got the right entre that we ordered that was good. The assistant manager apologized for the mix up but never even offered us a glass of wine to make up for the wrong doings and he hoped to see us again!

Had lunch and dinner there over 2 days. The meatballs in penne was okay and a little over cooked. The next day had the vegetarian wrap which was excellent. Great spicing in the wrap. Service with Darlene was exceptional. A bit pricey, however, overall worth it.

The food was amazing, as was the service. We had a healthy breakfast of poached eggs on avocado naan bread with a tomato salad. I couldn't be more happy with my experience. And the orange juice was freshly squeezed!

Far exceeded my expectations and was well-priced for the quality. Great service. Will absolutely be back
