Just before I start, I would like to mention how beautiful the food was here, the oysters were stunning, and we both ordered fish mains which were potentially the best we have ever eaten. So now you will wonder why I am giving such a low score. To start the meal off, we walked in around 5pm as the restaurant was empty we thought we could grab an early table. The staff were slightly surly on arrival but I understood once they told us that there was a large party upstairs and that we may be waiting a while for our food. I said absolutely no problem, we were happy to have a drink and relax while they sorted the large party out. So no problem there. We waited quite a long time to order a drink, which I thought was odd as we had already agreed to be patient and wait to order our food. After a while, a lady approached us and told us that she had been allowed to take our order now. The attitude of the servers were unprofessional and immature (we could hear them discussing how to stall our table, even though we had already agreed it was OK for a delay in the food service!!!! We asked to move tables as we could not touch our table without our drinks going flying, the server brought us a door stop which seemed to fix it. Again, we understand as it is an old pub, and we were polite as ever. While eating our mains, my partner went to pull his chair further towards the table, much to the shock of us and the poor lady behind him, the chair collapsed and pretty much disintegrated underneath him! (My partner is a fairly fit man, and could not be classed as 'overweight ' in any way. So this was the weirdest point of the evening. As fellow diners turned to help my partner who was lying on his back looking very embarrassed, the staff very quietly appeared, cleaning away the bits of chair, and replacing it with another rickety one. No apology, no 'let me get you a drink ' or anything like that. It was even mentioned by a fellow diner that we should inform health and safety. On his way down, he hit his head. Anybody else could have claimed here and made a fortune, but we are not like that, we only wanted a sorry!! After this my partner was visibly uncomfortable, his new chair was wobbly too, and he did not eat the rest of his main. We asked for the bill, told the server that we were unhappy how we were treated, he said sorry that we felt this way, and I asked him to tell his manager. When my partner went up to pay the bill, he told the lady which I expect was a manager. She simply answered, 'sorry I didn 't see it, I 've been on drinks tonight '..... so still not really an apology, and to be quite frank, I think it was pretty decent of us to pay the £120 bill and not kick off. I think my partner was so embarrassed he gave in. Service is shocking, and reading the other reviews we are not alone. 10 points to the chef, 0 for the customer service and front of house staff. Embarrassed, unhappy, and feel like we have been taken for mugs. My partner said that he will never return. Where is the manager and is he/she/they reading these comments?!
