In the 19th century, the expansion and partial reconstruction of the city hotel was carried out according to the plans of Godde and Lesueur from 1837 to 1848, while preserving the Renaissance façade. Antoine Vivenel, a general contractor, was responsible for the project. Four painters, including Jean-Victor Schnetz, are called to celebrate the great Parisian revolutions on the walls of the ancient Temple of the Throne.
